Yup, that's pretty disappointing for a lot of folks, I'm sure. I don't understand why that happened.

Cross post from the other Alden thread:

My Whiskey Indys from the MTO effort arrived yesterday and they look absolutely fantastic. I know that some folks were upset by the order not coming out as expected (closed heal instead of 360º welt and speedhooks instead of all eyelets) but those things don't really bother me. Both were options that I was originally indifferent about but I think now I actually like the closed heal on these better than I would have a 360º welt for a couple of reasons: First, I already have a pair of color #8 Indys with the 360º and second, I think the closed heal makes these look a tiny bit sleeker.

In the end though, the main reason these differences don't bother me is because I have a relatively small and wide foot so I looked at the special order mainly as a guarantee that I was going to be able to get a whiskey shell cordovan Indy Boot in something other than a "D" width.

I've had these on for just a few hours now and it's amazing how quickly the creases are showing up. I imagine this to be an attribute of the whiskey color which is much lighter than any of the cigar or color #8 that I have. Once the fog goes away and the sun comes, I'll have to try to get a picture outside later to really show off the creasing.

Yay! Thanks for posting the review. Great pics, too.

To anyone that has the MTO Whiskey Indy on order in a 9D and would be interested in trading for the same boot but with 360 degree welt ( reverse), speed laces, and double leather soles (not oiled), I have a pair that has been worn only a handful of times from Alden NYC. PM me if interested.

would anyone be interested in a #8 cap toe on the grant last with light antique trim on double oak leather soles or double oiled soles? Would do anything for a boot like this frown.gif (this is my rough and crappy attempt at showing the make up, only I'd prefer all eyelets, done quickly using some images from Unionmade and combining in keynote...I'm no good at this. click to see bigger)220

There has been a lot of discussion on the Alden thread about people getting in on the Leffot pre-order for the ravello day tripper boots on the Grant last. Supposed to arrive in early fall.

This is not the same as our Ravello cap toe / Barie last MTO that we did we did with Leffot, is it?

Just curious, as our MTO was on the Barrie!!

Hope these are two separate orders!

These are indeed two different orders. Leffot is still waiting for confirmation from Alden on our MTO.

Hey Fellas,

Had an idea for a cool fall make up that uses "stock" leathers. the goal is to make a dressed up, yet very functional fall shoe.

The idea:

#8 Country Medallion Blucher

the specs:

Leather: #8
Pattern: Dover Blucher
Last: Barrie, leydon, or grant.
Edge: antique
sole: commando
eyelets: matched

I was inspired by the below leather sole make-up. the perforations on the toe on a what other wise is a PTB seemed really unique to me, and add that to some more rugged specs and I think you have a really interesting and wearable shoe. Though normally a "bluchers or bust" kind of guy, this is a make up that might also work in a balmoral pattern.

another way to update would to be do a saddle shoe make-up, with brown scotch grain on the sides but keeping the medallion toe. A little more out there, but def interesting.

thoughts?

Here is a real life picture of the make up you are suggesting (different last however) courtesy of Tres Bein Shop.

^^^ Leather Soul also do a very similar version of this on the dressier plaza last, which I've owned for years and always gets comments - old photo:

In 2009, Tassels offered the Alden Combat Boot in Black Smooth Calf -

http://www.tassels.com.hk/en/made_to_order_details.php?id=8

I am looking for 11 other people who would be interested in approaching Epaulet about a special order of these shoes.

- Trubalance Last (the only change I am proposing - originally came on Barrie last)

- Premium Extra Smooth Calf in Black

- Flat waxed shoes lace

- matching eyelets

- Rugged Commando Sole

- Pull tab

Gentlemen, nobody is offering this type of shoe - let's get this done now, so that it will be available by the fall.

Who's in?

I've been looking for a black combat boot.  Might as well be an Alden.  I'm in.
