Ordered a pair of vass ankle boots a while back and received a letter in the mail from fedex charging me almost $300 for duties. On a previous order from vass that had 2 shoes and a belt, I paid around $100, could this just be a mistake in classification? Fedex claims they can't "read" the previous delivery's classification and thus can't file a change. Any suggestions? Should I be a sucker and just pay it, do I even have a chance of it being reversed?

Every shipment is a gamble. You just never know what you are going to get hit with for duty. I don't know about challenging it, but if you do, I would love to hear the result.

Fedex had the balls to offer to challenge it for me, for a fee of $75, basically negating the result of the challenge because it would add $75 to whatever they come up with, I'm just gonna pay it and go through kolecho in the future

Forget the former package's classification, what is the classification of the current package and what did the sender declare as value?

Wow, that's rough. I always factor in a hit for boarder fees when using something other than regular post, but it must have a ridiculously high listed value to get dinged that much.

Classified at Leather Welted FTWR.MEN, W/OUTER SOLE LEAT Declared value as $690 HTSUS Rate is 37.5% giving me $258.75 + $25 fee & $1.45 processing fee gives a grand total of $283.75 I payed Vass $100 for shipping which is already crazy and they don't even take care of duties, so I could of went bespoke for a couple hundred more

That is crazy. My last international shipment was from UK to Canada (I think it was UPS). $600 priced watch I paid about $150 on duties. I thought that was high.

There was a thread last year about different carriers and who charges the most. Worth reading.

Yea, I just hope people can learn from this and work out deals regarding duties with Eva, or find a good proxy. I hear good things about Kolecho but until I use him myself, I don't want to give a baseless recommendation

Actually I did have a shipment from China for just over $100 and I paid nothing in duty or taxes. It came through a carrier called EMS.

I've never owned a pair of Vass, but for that additional shipping might as well just buy EG rtw.

ModernTailor uses EMS and I've never been charged duty on ~5 orders. I live in Canada.
