Hi all,
I bought the purple/lilac wide leg jeans and really like them. But they're not the sort of thing I usually wear and not sure what they go with! Can anyone give me some tips about how to wear them? I bought the matching U t-shirt to go with them too but not sure I like them together, double lilac is a bit too much of a "look" for me as a 45-year-old dad, I think. How do these outfits look?

(I usually post this sort of thing in the advice forum, but it's been dead there recently. I miss having Derek Guy here to tell me all my clothes look ****).

How do you find the jeans fit, did you go with your normal size? I’m interested in the brown ones, but the measurements suggest they fit bigger than the tagged size. Any thoughts?

Well I'm usually a 32 or 34, with a 32 sometimes being a bit tight and a 34 sometimes being a bit loose. But these handily come in a 33 (the largest they come in) which seems to fit me well.

Unfortunately, in Canada, Uniqlo doesn't go larger than a 34" in these. I'm normally a 36" waist but the 34" is supposed to measure 35 5/6". However, based on your experience they seem more TTS?

Yes, they seem to fit fine to me!

Anyone got any thoughts on the lilac jeans I posted? I only got one "wow" emoji so far and I'm not sure if it was a good or bad wow! I do like them but not sure what they will go with in my wardrobe. And searching for inspiration on Google all I found was a dieworkwear post where purple jeans are specifically given as an example of the sort of thing someone might buy and regret later.

First you might consider if Lilac is a good color for you. Look up seasonal color analysis which uses the color tones of your skin, eyes, and hairs, to help you understand what colors flatter your natural self or washes you out.

If Lilac is one of your suitable seasonal colors, it will naturally go with other colors from the same season, which is probably spring, if it's a vivid lilac, or summer, if it's a faded lilac. From your pictures it's hard to tell.

Among the colors of your season, you may look best in monochrome looks, as in one of your pics, or in neutral or tonal looks, various shades of blue and purple, or in boldly contrasting colors, like maybe a red top lilac bottom, green top lilac bottom etc. What will help you see which combination most flatters you is understanding your style essence. Look that up, which uses your facial features and body shape to determine your "vibe", which may be relaxed (earth tones), playful (contrasting), intense (monochrome), or otherwise etc. It will also tell you the styles you look most naturally good in.

This is a good way to find looks, styles, and colors that make you look wonderful as you, and not look like a person in a costume or a fashion stylist disaster. This is why some people pull off certain looks and other people pull off different look. Get to know you and it makes shopping and fashion very easy, fun, and self-affirming. And wouldn't that be nice?

i think the second look is fire and a good usage of color. i would hem them for a cleaner leg but otherwise i think it's a great classic fit with visual interest because it's got a little color.

They not my cup of tea, but if you like them, I think you can pull them off.

I think for a lilac the color isn’t offensive and has a fairly natural vibe to them. Personally I would wear with brown’s, ecru, white, grey, indigo or maybe a light denim jacket.
