+1. I'm never buying new furniture again. I also like that used furniture is broken in so I won't obsess over every mark or sign of wear and accompanying depreciation in value.

Empty just looks nicer. If in doubt toss something out the window, you might get rid of an annoying neighbor, making it a doubly rewarding endeavour.

Bed bugs terrify me though.

I feel like life has filled my place up, though 99% of people would find it uncomfortably barren. They should have seen it ten years ago.

What was it like 10 yrs ago?

I think it's great. Nice and open, and each piece in the entire place seems to have been put there deliberately and with purpose (as it obviously was).

I'll try to find some pics. It basically had little furniture and nothing else, and what it did have, we got rid of years ago. Our place before was basically all hand me down stuff, and we really didn't know what we liked, so, thankfully, we ended up not getting very much.

i find that i need less and less shit around me than when i was younger. i have all kinds of DVDs and CDs and knick-knacks and shit that just sit there because they've been transferred to digital format. i have chairs nobody ever sits in, i have outdoor furniture that rarely gets used, etc etc... i'm selling my place and, in preparation to show it, cleaned out a ton of shit that was sitting around. it looks more sterile now but i'm much more comfortable in it. it's much more relaxing to have nothing around.

Someone should start an affordable "just in case" bedbug service.

My understanding is that freezing to a suitably low temperature for enough time takes care of the little buggers...somebody with a cooled warehouse needs to start a side business that operates like a furniture delivery service except they freeze anything upholstered for a week before it arrives at your place.

Found a citation: looks like you only have to get it down below 23F for 5 days which shouldn't really damage any furniture if it goes down and up gradually.
