Need a good-looking blanket or bedspread

In size twin XL, for college. I'm still on that America tip. I like the look of Pendleton stuff, but it's absurdly expensive. Anyone have suggestions?

Are you living in a dorm or outside of campus? Rooming with others or by yourself? Because these factors will determine the probability of the blanket acquiring damage due to various reasons, from stupid roommates behavior to unexpected stains during nights of passion.

Ikea. Cheap, pure wool, various sizes, some nice, fairly neutral designs.

Yes Pendelton is nice and I own a Cheif Joseph pattern from the 1950's. But my favorite is the Hudson Bay Trapper blanket. You can find them used on ebay. Or new, of course.

My father was given one by his parents when he went off to Ohio State (therefor they chose the red one) in the late 30's. I used it as a kid and took it to college in the 70's. My son used it until 2003 when it wore out.

I would say few things will give you that much of a payback on your investment.

They come in green, cream with multi colored stripes and red. Maybe other colors, I don't know.

I checked out eBay. Very few listed as Trapper blankets. Some as 4-point, some as 6-point. Any suggestions for which type to look out for PSG?

There are 88 listings for Hudson Bay Blanket on ebay. Maybe the word "trapper" threw it off? The correct description is usually Hudson Bay Blanket, even though we used to call it the trapper blanket growing up. 6 point is a Queen, 4 point a twin, 8 a king but check dimensions. The sizing is a bit old-school and may be a tad smaller than what you are used to. These are rather heavy weight. You will be warm and cozy. I think a smaller one makes the perfect throw for your couch.

BTW, here is some interesting historical info on them as well. Great story, certainly for a blanket

I was actually thinking about getting one of these for each my daughter and son. Classic North American history and they last for ever even with pets, kids, etc....

Thanks PSG. I saved the search and will keep an eye out for one. I'm a bit hesitant on buying a used blanket, or a "vintage" one at that, but I'll try anything once.

Yes, HBC, and they are called "point blankets", not trapper blankets.
