Airlines to Singapore/HK? - Page 2

Partial report;

The non-stop from Newark to Singapore is quite amazing. Very good seats, good service, quite good food/wine.

One nice thing they do-- like a lot of business classes, they now provide headphones. I'd read that they were noise-cancelling and was disappointed to see that these didn't have the circuitry built in.

Correction: the phones do have very discreet built-in mikes and related circuitry. They are, however, powered by the jack so you don't have to worry about on/off switching and batteries.

I'm not a fan of the very wide biz seats on Singapore. One elbow is always hanging out there is the wind with no place to rest it.

To my mind, though, the price differential between first and biz is prohibitive for what amount to marginally better comfort. I'll only fly international first if using miles and there's some sort of discount -- say, 62k miles vs. 50k for biz.

I must admit that I've enjoyed AA's international first, though. Far better than than the worn out biz cabin. The seat is is a true lie-flat, and actually swivels so you can work at what amounts to a reasonably side desk.

They've put a very firm rectangular pillow near the armrest (in business) so you can essentially sit in a normal-width first class seat. Or you want to curl up in a wider space, you can pitch the cushion onto the floor next to the seat.

Is that new? I flew them when these seats had just rolled out and there was no such pillow to be had. (Weirdly, I flew Houston to Moscow, which is sort of like taking Lufthansa from Sydney to Narita.)
