So far as I understand it, the new Envy's still won't have the ability to upgrade to the higher quality screen.

Same. Apple might be updating the Air this week with Sandy Bridge, so you might get lucky.

try http://www.costcentral.com/product-l...Lenovo/Z11178/ wow they already have the x1 out give them a call. i forget exactly what the name is, but the ips screen isnt sold as ips, but under some generic name like HD premium screen or something like that you can also use the tabook http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf find the preconfigured model you want and then put that in google.

Probably won't for reasons listed above.

Yeah, I've searched the proper models in google. No one has it in stock... no one!

Lenovo X1 is a new model. Lead time is probably 2-3 weeks.

also ime lenovo usually fulfills before their quoted time and not after. i got mine like 5 days before they said it would come and so did a bunch of ppl at nbr.

but it might've been because it was early on in the game. things might've changed now. they seem to be selling pretty quickly

Rec. a laptop under $800?

General use, not going to be bringing my desktop up with me for college this time. Should be reasonably fast, won't be gaming much on it, but still want a discrete graphics card anyway.

I would say if you are a casual gamer only, you could probably get by on the latest generation of intel integrated graphics. Seriously, they are getting pretty impressive. As others have said, buy a thinkpad, you won't regret it. Yes the styling can be considered boring, but think of it as timeless. I just received my latest thinkpad, an X220 a few days ago, and I am absoloutly in love with it . HIGHLY recommended!
