How much do you spend on groceries? - Page 5

Since I'm not in the US, it's not a fair comparison, but I spend around ~500 USD per month, sometimes more, rarely less, and that's somewhat south of 1/3 of what I get each month as student loans.

I think I'm doing something wrong. I spend about $400 per month for just me and I definitely don't eat crab and lobster for every meal. Then again, I eat about 6 times a day and am often strapped for time, so chicken with instant mashed potatoes and microwave meals are not out of the norm for me. Maybe for the summer I'll give the whole foods/trader joe's, farmer's market, butcher thing a try.

Orange juice is too good to be true.

My daily food cost is about $20. I eat a pretty large amount since I do a lot of athletics and I need to keep the body going strong. Some weeks groceries might be $200 if I load up a lot of stuff on sale (ie buying 12 lbs of beef at once), and other weeks it might be $50 for little things here and there, but overall it averages to around $20 a day. My diet is also heavy on fresh produce and meat, both of which can be pricey, but I think I do a pretty good job of being thrifty despite the fact that DC is so expensive for food. When I go home to rural Pennsylvania, everything is about 25% cheaper.... meat, eggs, vegetables, nuts, dairy, beans, everything. Even buying things "on sale" in DC is still more expensive than regular price at the local supermarket in PA. It's frustrating.
