was thinking that too,
my four in hand doesn't work with Hober ties.
Don't have that problem with any other tie.
Maybe it is time to change the knot for my Hobers.

I'd love to see pics if you have any handy. That seems bizarre, assuming all else is otherwise right with the tie/tie placement.

David (Sam Hober),

when me wear your ties,
why do they always angle to the right of my body?

Wear your ties with a four in hand,
but always slants to the right to reveal my shirt buttons.

Any idea why the ties do this?

I find my four-in-hands knots twist as you describe. That's one reason I prefer the pratt-shelby knot, even though it is a little bit bulkier

I’d also like to see pictures. What is described has never happened with any of my ties, mostly Hober and Drakes, with some Panta and TYT, in a variety of construction, unlined six fold, lightly lined three or fold, etc.
The only knot I use is four in hand or double four in hand…..

Good morning-
I read in David’s newsletter that there was an American (brooks brothers) tie shape vs a European (bottle shape) tie shape. Google hasn’t helped. Does anyone have any comparative pictures? I’d like to see what the European style looks like.
Thanks!

one data point re: red/burgundy. The grenadine fina burgundy is very dark, verging on brown. It is not an issue, but given I was wondering about how dark it would be, as opposed to politician bright red, and how I was struggling to find that answer here on SF, I thought I would share my view.

A few new arrivals:

I actually got a little too eager to knock some more items off my wishlist and put in for some of the macclesfield prints after opening these. There are definitely worse vices to have, IMO.

What would be the recommended width for a classic navy/burgundy grenadine tie? My ties all seem to be 8cm, but I don't have many, and I don't wear one often.

I've read somewhere that tie width should be proportional/similar to the suit/jacket lapel width, so I measured my suit jackets and sport coats and all of them have around 9cm lapel width, so I guess they're not far off from my ties.

Should I stick with 8cm or try 9cm or other sizes?

I would say it also depends on your chest size and neck. I am a size 52 with broad chest, and the shirt triangle needs 9 cm to be filled proportionally. If you are size 46, I would suggest staying with 8 cm irrespective of your lapel size. If you cannot decide, take 8.5😄

I take size EU50 for most suits and sport coats (true size is probably 49), so kinda middle of the road. Might be able to go with either.

I wish I could go to a shop and try on some 9cm ties, but they seem to be quite unusual. Drake's and some of the Italian brands seem to be 8cm.

I’ve been ordering 8.5cm(ish) ties from Hober and think they are *perfect* - for reference I’m a 15.5 neck, 40r jacket.

52R here, 16.5 neck…. I prefer 9 cm if I am getting a tie made. 8cm ties are ok for off the rack.

If you’re worried about 9, and like 8, maybe take @zr3rs advoce and go 8.5.

Thanks everyone. Seems like 8.5cm might be a good bet, and if I like them better than 8cm I can always try 9cm down the line.
