Guys, if you remember the photo I posted, I just received a cream PS. This one http://www.samhober.com/thai-shot-silk-pocket-squares/light-cream-shot-thai-silk-pocket-square.html. I know I know

. But I think he's right on its usefulness. This one has a slight sheen to it, but not overly so. Does anybody have this one http://www.samhober.com/satin-silk-pocket-squares/light-cream-satin-silk-pocket-square-1.html. I'm curious how different they are. The Thai shot one is very stiff. Holds a puff very well of course, almost foldable. But that very characteristic makes it appear less soft than what you might think of in a classic cream silk PS worn with a tux for example.

I ordered a swatch of the light cream satin silk for the same purpose and didn't particularly like it. It is more of a light silver than a cream and feels stiff and lifeless compared to, say, a Macclesfield silk.

I've experimented slightly and ordered a pocket square in light yellow grenadine fina which is actually a soft cream colour. Hopefully the texture will make it look less like part of a cheap wedding set. I sized down to a 13" square to account for grenadine's bulkiness. Will update this thread with my impressions when it arrives in approx. 2 weeks.

Fascinating thought process. Would love to hear and see how that turns out. Very creative.

I appreciate the personal experience Pliny. That's the kind of insight that helps. You said that squares shouldn't be weaves. That makes sense, and it's why I've never bought a square from a grenadine silk. But what do you mean by plains are less versatile? All plain squares are less versatile? That would make sense but just clarifying. The cream silk one I just got is the only plain square I have except for white linen.

tdude - the burnt orange oxford weave is pure awesomeness, well done!

Just to confirm, tdude's post is the burnt orange oxford weave? I had been planning to wait until the wool/cashmeres came online for a purchase, but this may be bumping up into that order.

Today's Hober (another repeat from a few months back) is the Macclesfield #84 (6-fold construction).

I have the satin square, and it is, in my opinion, way too stiff. It's a beautiful ps, but if I buy a silk ps I want it to be a soft and smooth ps. This is not the case with this ps. If you try to puff it you get more of a pointy, sharp and hard object bulging out of your pocket. It folds nicely though, but I don't like folding silk. So it has unfortunately been left unused after a couple of initial tries. But if you think that the thai shot one is stiff and makes a nice puff: go for it. It's beautiful and as always impeccably made.

Does anyone have a tie in the Macclesfield #145 (https://www.samhober.com/macclesfield-print-silk-ties/macclesfield-printed-silk-tie-145.html)?

I'm really interested in that fabric in a 6 or 7-fold, very lightly or completely unlined to use with odd jackets and odd trousers/chinos. But it's always good to see an action shot of the fabric as an actual tie first. I have seen a picture of Luca Rubinacci with a tie that - if my memory serves me right - is very similar to this fabric and it looks really good. I've tried finding the picture but can't. So basically I don't even know if Luca's tie and this fabric is the same or if I just imagine them to be.
