I have a few Hober grenadine finas and they are only 3 inches but tie a great knot

Bespoke tie versus off-the-rack tie for more money? How is that even a decision?

Then by all means buy the brand name.

Heck no. Hober all the way!! Outside of squares, I am no fan of Drake's.

Unless something has changed there are probably only two mills in Italy weaving grenadine. So, David and Drake's are likely using the same silk in many cases. Both have skilled makers sewing the ties. The differences are down to lining and customization. For a very reasonable price, David will make you a tie matching your exact desires with high quality interlining. Drake's will do the same for a completely unreasonable price. A custom 4-fold black fina from David will cost much less than the same ready-to-wear tie from Drakes (although I think their RTW are usually 3-fold). And the interlining of the Drake's grenadines, I've found, is inconsistent. As someone else mentioned, unless wait time is an issue, there really isn't any reason to get a plain grenadine tie from Drake's.

If not from David, I'd get a custom grenadine from Cappelli or Shaya at Exquisite Trimmings. If RTW, Kent Wang and HN White are good options.

Drake's has a lot of very nice fabrics for ties, many of which aren't available through other channels. (Other channels could probably acquire the same fabrics. I assume they choose not to.) If there's one that you like, you're OK with 8 cm width, and can get it at a discount, they're very nice. Otherwise, there are many great options these days of equivalent quality at a lower price.

Plum Italian linen (GLT-2), 3-fold, untipped.

Excuse my ignorance but what is an "SC Six"?  Assume it has something to do with the coat but not sure what the shorthand stands for.

"SC" stands for "Sport Coat" and "Six" is a shortening of the poster's username.

I am ordering a grenadine tie from Sam Hober of a narrower shape with 2.5” width

http://www.samhober.com/grenadine-grossa-pin-dot-silk-ties/dark-red-on-midnight-blue-grenadine-pin-dot-silk-tie-3.html

However, I have some questions. Experienced Sam Hober’s fans please help.

Where and what is the "tie thread" ?

Where and what is the "Monogrammed keepers"?

How did you make these decisions?

If you are referring to what I think you are, the former is that little thread on the back keeping everything together. The latter, also on the back of the larger blade, is the rectangular piece through which you slide the back blade. If you like, for a small fee it can be monogrammed.

I like to have them in contrasting colors to the tie background to set them off. I always pick either blue or dark red, depending on tie color, just because I like them and, coincidentally or not, those are school colors.

Does anyone have a picture comparing the "Soft Navy"(#11) grenadine to any of the other navy grenadines?

Just made a Hober order. It's been a while and this tread has been dead since Pink Panther disappeared.

Got three new squares:

Carlo Riva - Pink & White Linen Arsenal Linen/Cotton Pocket Square #6

Macclesfield Madder Silk Pocket Square #8
Red, Green & Mandarin on Chocolate Macclesfield Madder Silk Pocket Square #MP-8

Atkinsons Printed Irish Poplin Pocket Square #9
Red, Navy Blue, Black, Light Yellow on Yellow Atkinsons Printed Irish Poplin Pocket Square #APRP-9

And three grenadine ties in colors I don't have. The two top ones are in a mixed weave that I haven't gotten yet either.

Forest Green & Midnight Blue Cashmere/Silk Grenadine Grossa Silk Tie #SCGGT-7

Charcoal Gray & Midnight Blue Cashmere/Silk Grenadine Grossa Silk Tie #SCGGT-10

Bitter Chocolate Prometeo Grenadine Silk Tie #GPMT-21

I have slate blue in Prometeo and I really like that larger weave. I'm excited to get one in another color.

I'll post pictures when they arrive.

Nice order.  Someone is getting ready for fall.

I have the charcoal grey & midnight blue cashmere/silk grenadine.  It's a great tie.
