I am thinking purple black for one, but can't decide on a fifth -- any thoughts? I wear exclusively white shirts and charcoal, navy, and mid-gray suits. Any advice is appreciated!

I'd say bitter chocolate, slate blue or powder blue.  Love those colors.

@Ecloth, do you mind sharing what shirt is this? I like the collar shape/size/cut a lot.

@simplec6 it was made by a local tailor as was the suit. His name is James Han. https://m.facebook.com/EnglandCustomTailor/

I am looking to purchase a couple Sam Hober ties for myself as it is Christmas and it just seems like a good idea.

I would like to see the difference between the 4-fold Grenadine and 6-fold Grenadine and though about ordering one of each to start with, unless there is a compelling argument against.

My favorite color is a very dark purple, and I am having a hard time deciding which shade of the Grenadine Grossa offerings to choose from.

I really like the raisin, wine and eggplant colors. I think I like the raisin the best. Almost a midnight blue / purple blend. Based on that I was looking at the following ties.

^Dark Purple & Black #35

^Burgundy & Midnight #4

^Dark Red on Midnight Pin Dot #3

^Purple on Midnight Pin Dot #7

My comments are based on the pictures, though I know the person who owns these ties is a member of this forum and may be able to give me an indication of what it looks like in real life.

The first one looks more maroon to me. The second one looks kind of plum to me. The third (though not purple at all) looks very close to what I am going for from a distance, up close it may be obvious it is midnight and red. This leads me to the last one; I know it is primarily midnight, I was wondering if it had the appearance of a deep purple given the purple dots in it.

I plan on having the purple one be my 6-fold and then for the 4-fold get a Navy. After seeing both, I would then order whichever one I like better (4-fold or 6-fold) in a variety of colors and patterns (Green, Yellow, Burgundy, etc...)

This leads me to my last issue. I am afraid I will not be very partial given purple is my favorite color and it will be the more expensive of the two; this may lead me to justify the additional 50% fee for the two extra folds even if they are extremely similar in quality and drape. Thus if anyone is willing to give an impartial opinion on 4-fold vs. 6-fold Grenadine Grossa ties, I would love to hear it.

*note*, I have a very barrelled chest and the "drape" does not even start until the bottom of my sternum (where your rib cage comes together), and i am thinking the better "drape" may not matter. Also, if I am wearing a tie, I am wearing a jacket 95%+ of the time.

Thanks in advance and apologies for such a long post,

-Ray

I can't believe this usually talkative group hasn't provided you with any feedback yet.

I only have a few 4-fold Grenadines and I like them very much.  You should email David for his own thoughts on what to purchase, but I think the 6-fold only makes sense if you are going with an unlined tie; because of the fabric's qualities the 4-fold already ties a very nice and substantial knot.

Good luck, I'm sure all would be a good option.  I too would like to buy a purple tie but I'm thinking about going with an Oxford/Twill/Diamond weave, instead of a grenadine.

Of the colors shown, I easily prefer the first - #35.

Hello all! I felt this thread was an appropriate place to ask, do you think the bow tie being worn by The Doctor here is a Hober and if it is what weave and color?

These are the largest pictures I could find that show off the weave specifically. It certainly looks like a grenadine to me, but I wanted to consult those with more experience. Please let me know, cheers!

I think you should order the swatches. The colors on monitors can look very different than the actual colors. I would throw another into the mix - the lavender cashmere / silk. It's a very unique color and wonderful to the touch.

Definitely order swatches for grenadines. You might think a color is what you want and then you'll get it and realize it is way off from what you had envisioned. There is no substitute for holding it next to your preferred shirts and jackets.

POW tie for a wedding.

Hi David and Hoberites, have a quick question regarding the wool interlining. I bought a 'new' grenadine fina from the Classifieds and found that the interlining is extended past the grenadine weave. What should I do in this case, stretch the tie out or snip it with a pair of fabric shears?

EDIT: I have done the unthinkable and snipped it off LOL.

First time in this thread. Any pictures of the madder ties? How are they and how do they compare to Drakes madder?

Just got in 3 beautiful Grenadine's, after much research and sifting through this and other threads...

They are amazing ties, great quality, service and even packaging!

I unfortunately should have gone 2 inches longer in length it seems...

GFT-3    Burgundy Grenadine Fina Silk Tie #GFT-3
GFT-8    Midnight Blue Grenadine Fina Silk Tie #GFT-8
GGT-10    Navy Grenadine Grossa Silk Tie #GGT-10

All are 3" width, 57" length

Not sure if this is against the SF rules to post this here, but PM me if you have interest in taking any/all off my hands so I can re-order with longer lengths.
