A Sam (and David) Hober Tie Appreciation Thread - Page 254

Really, ten should be the minimum rotation of anyone who wears a tie 3< a week. That way you are only wearing a tie twice a month and don't have a "Tuesday" tie.

Wore an orange shirt (promotional item) to an event where we all had to wear them. My wife, and a woman at the office, both said I looked good in orange.

Obvious next step-

Burnt Orange Diamond Weave #19
Mandarin Orange Grossa
Some Other Orange tie?

I have a lot of grandness although not as many as some of you. I have no diamond weaves, and I know I'm going there soon.

Recommendations?

I have and love the burnt orange oxford. The new rust wool tie is also excellent.

The Burnt Orange Wool Challis (6-fold), loving the colour and the feel of it!

The question has nothing to do with how many ties one should have in rotation; rather, as specifically asked,, the question is simply what Hobers you would choose if you could only have 5.

Today's Hober is a repeat and is the Macclesfield #119 (6-fold construction).

I am a big fan of the burnt orange diamond weave (one of my top 5 actually). I have the mandarin orange grossa and like it a lot but I wouldn't go with that as my first orange tie. tdude wears a number of orange ties so you may want to take a look at his pics to see what they look like in action.

Also, what's your thought process / rationale for choosing grenadine grossa, fina, or prometeo? Is it purely an aesthetic issue or do other factors (e.g. diversification, formality, suit/jacket texture, etc.) factor in? Thanks.

My top 5 (in no particular order):
- burnt orange diamond weave
- Macclesfield #102
- charcoal grey/silver grenadine grossa
- English pattern #20 (which is like #6 but in navy and powder blue)
- powder blue linen

That was difficult and I feel bad about all the others I didn't mention.

Wrt the weave question, I have a number of both the grossa and fina weave ties and like both equally. I have both just to mix it up a little. I don't have any of the other two weaves only because I basically have all the colors covered between the grossa/fina collection...shog[1].gif

My top 5:

Midnight Blue Fina

Dark Red & White on Midnight Blue Fina (probably my favorite Hober)

Yellow Gold Oxford Silk

MacClesfield Print Silk #165

Burnt Orange Thai Rough Silk

It was tough leaving the White on Midnight Blue Fina Pin Dot off this list, though...

Not sure about top 5, but I really like these:

oxford weave burgundy #6
oxford weave navy #3
Italian Midnight Blue Faille #2 (sold out)
olive green grenadine fina #18
Macclesfield Madder Printed Silk Tie #6 (sold out)
.

Midnight grossa with white pindots in action. I think this look works better with a light grey suit than something in a darker grey.

Yup. That formula is excellent!

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

That is a great combo, no doubt. If I were playing along with the top 5 Hober game, the midnight grossa with white pindots would definitely be on my list. Pictures truly do not do this tie justice. I tried taking a pic to post here last time I wore mine, but couldn't get a decent one.

Today's Hober is one of David's new wool pattern ties and is the midnight blue w/powder blue pattern (6-fold construction).
