Love the tie. Wore mine earlier in the week.

Looking to make my first purchase. No burgundy or navy grenadine grossa so I am going with forest green and dark chocolate for my first set of decent ties. Can't wait.

Plenty of navy and burgundy options in the other grenadine weaves. If you prefer the large weave, you could go with navy (or midnight blue) and burgundy prometeos. Prometeo is almost indistinguishable from grossa.

Thanks flyswatter, that's good to know. I just want a weave that stands out and I figured Grossa was the better weave since most people seem to talk about either that one or Fina and I don't think I've ever seen anyone prefer Prometeo over it. It's probably all in my head since I know I probably won't be able to tell and neither will most people. I guess I'll order the forest green and dark chocolate for now and pick up the swatch for Prometeo.

Oh, and I noticed you had the same colors in your collection. That kind of makes me feel better about my initial choices to start my wardrobe. Either that or I must be a really boring person who prefers standard biggrin.gif.

No problem! Whatever you choose, they will be nice ties. Forest green and dark chocolate are great colors to have in the collection. nod[1].gif

As for grossa vs. prometeo, Hober is the only source I've ever seen of prometeo grenadines. I think most people who want a large weave grenadine are naturally drawn to grossa since they've probably never even heard of prometeo outside of Hober. David posted some interesting info a week or so ago in this thread regarding the various weaves. Grossa and fina come from one weaver (Fermo Fossati), while prometeo and piccola come from another (Bianchi).

Today's Hober is the mandarin orange grenadine grossa (6-fold construction). Happy Monday everyone!

Lousy picture today. The light grey pick and pick fabric wreaks havoc on the color and focus I guess. Atkinson's poplin. Love the texture of these ties.

I like the light grey color contrast with the tie.  And a nice tie.

Nice combo tdude :nodding:

+1 on the texture of the Atkinson's poplin.  I have a couple and probably need a couple more...:)

Wondering if I could get a little insight from you guys here. Looking to get my first Hober. Don't have much in the budget right now for more than 1.

I am looking for something that is very versatile, but I want something a little bit more exciting than a plain black or navy grenadine, as I plan on having this work as a tie for work, as well as an interview tie (I might have a few coming up this year.) I have two suits (one navy, that I wear often, and one black, that I wear less often, I also wear a lot of navy blazers and grey blazers). I also wear lots of blue shirts, as well as some whites (Really just starting to build my wardrobe).

So, I am open to any suggestions or comments, anything at all will help. I might order swatches before hand, depending on which models I am leaning towards the most, but right now, these are the 4 that I am most partial to:

Powder Blue & Brown Stripes Grenadine

or

Brown And Light Pink On Midnight Blue Grenadine

or

Dark Red Grenadine

or

Burgundy Grenadine

I have a burgundy knit tie from elsewhere that Is currently my favorite tie, so I love that color. But im not sure if Hobers burgundy is too brown, hence me also thinking about the dark red. If its between Dark red and burgundy i'll order swatches.

Any insight from you guys is appreciated. I am open to trying a second hand hober first, but they are hard to come by, and even harder to get the way I want (around 3.25 inches wide and around 60 long).

TL,DR: What should be my first hober? Something versatile that can double as a work and/or interview tie.

Out of those 4, my vote is burgundy. It looks like it's out of stock currently, though, but you could go with one of the other burgundy grenadines. Keep in mind that the pics on the Hober website generally show the ties to be much darker than they actually are from my experience, so ordering swatches is a good idea.

I think either dark red or burgundy would be great starter Hobers. You won't find much love for red ties on this forum (even dark red) but they are still nice in reality and the dark red grossa is a fantastic tie. Can't go wrong with burgundy ever, so if you are partial to that color then go for it (the grossa is out of stock but the fina is in stock).

Flyswatter is right about swatches to get the true color. The shades of burgundy do vary noticeably between the 4 weaves and I posted pics of all 4 burgundy swatches a few days ago. David was also nice enough to drop by with insight as to why there is shade variation between the weaves.

If it was me I would select dark red, but you will have a great tie either way. nod[1].gif

Welcome to the Hober thread and congrats on your selections! I really like the color and style choices, you are going to get a great sampling of David's ties. Enjoy. nod[1].gif
