Navy you can't really go wrong, but gray can easily be a trap. If the red is a true red (as in fire-engine type stuff), the grey absolutely has to be dark, almost approaching charcoal. If the suit is mid to lighter grey, burgundy will work wonderfully. But a mid to light grey suit with a bright red tie is one of the worst things there is in my opinion.

I think I'd say that you need as much darkness (or lightness) in the tie as you have lightness in the suit. So bright fire engine red is fine with a charcoal suit, but as the suit gets lighter the tie should go towards burgundy or pink to work.

But if the suit is dark enough, it's fantastic. Either with a white shirt for that dramatic bold contrast, or with a pink shirt for a softer expression.

Silverfox, I saw this post and liked the ties so much I ordered every one of them (except the dark red fina). I hope you don't mind. biggrin.gif

That depends, do I get royalties?

You can send me a tie for every 3 of mine you copy and we'll call it even.

EDIT:

Actually, from looking at the pictures of your collection in this thread, I might end up owing you some ties.

Today's Hober is the bottle green oxford weave (3-fold construction).  Lighting is poor, the green is a little brighter IRL.

Love that tie PP. seems to have quite a matte/dry texture. Is it so IRL?

Thanks tdude!  The texture is very similar to the diamond weave, I wouldn't call it dry.

No royalties I'm afraid. I can offer my undying gratitude for your excellent choice of ties and great pics! nod[1].gif

As promised, evidence of package delivered

Honestly though, these pictures don't do them justice. Taken with my smartphone in my bathroom at nighttime with the "fantastic" lighting that entails. Needless to say the colors are richer and deeper in real life.

Plaid silk necktie #13, 6-fold construction
For extra bonus points you can have a guess at where I got the pocket square

This one looks like a flat black, but it's actually a midnight blue. Grenadine fina in 6-fold construction

English pattern tie, I got the last or second last so it's taken off the site (so I can't find the number), 6-fold construction

And there's another package currently in the mail, which is an inverted madder scarf. Basically a scarf made with the backside of the madder in the PS above, so you get the golden brown color of the twill, but with a watermark effect from the print on the other side of it. Very optimistic about this one.
