I like black as well but the world is your oyster really as burgundy, charcoal/silver, dark red (and probably some others) can all be very nice and still conservative.  I've spoilered some of my efforts.

Guess i'll just have to get into it as a character of the weave.

Oh well!

Sorry to hear that Syeknom. crazy.gif

I find the fina a bit more prone to snagging than the grossa but could just be me.  I have snagged a couple of mine as well and both times I have done it at the end of the day when I am taking the tie off.  I try to be more careful nowadays but sometimes after a long happy hour I...forget. shog[1].gif

These fit all bills nicely and are never ever wrong.

Bitter chocolate should be there too. Brown but better, right?

After much deliberation over swatches...my first hober (and David's service) turned out to be just as excellent as this thread had led me to expect smile.gif

The brief was:

  • White on Midnight Blue Pin Dot Grenadine
  • Garza Grossa
  • 4-fold
  • 8cm/3.15in width
  • Untipped, rolled edges
  • Standard lining
  • Tack stitches in white

There are quite a few colors that work here, not the least of which is some shade of burgundy.

Would you gentlemen consider this colour to be versitile with different shades of blue shirts or is it too dark ? as yet i don't own many ties and this would be my first Grenadine tie . https://www.samhober.com/grenadine-fina-solid-ties/dark-purple-black-grenadine-fina-silk-tie-35.html i ment to post this one sorry but would appreciate your opinions on both .https://www.samhober.com/grenadine-piccola-silk-ties/dark-purple-piccola-grenadine-silk-tie-19.html

I think both of those would be beautiful with a blue or white shirt with a navy or grey suit.

How many ties do you own that you like and would wear going forward? If you already have something in navy, black, grey / silver, burgundy and something else conservative (e.g. a lighter blue solid or dark blue / burgundy pin dot), go for it. If you don't have these basics, acquire them first. It's a nice tie but basics should come first (though fortunately with ties, fixing the mistake of not having the basics is much more affordable than it is with suits and odd jackets). Grenadine silk is fine for your basic ties, but you can also so a more traditional solid silk with less texture, twill, etc.

I snagged a couple of my grenadines too. My navy one I snagged the day I took it out of the box. That was a bad day. My wife, good soul that she is, was able to pul the thread back in. (Her mother was a home ec teacher and a professional seamstress nod[1].gif)

I have 178 aravenel and love it. Great choice. Don't have 80, but I think I need it. . . .

Ditto on the navy ties with navy suits advice here. For the most part, I wear my navy ties with everything but the navy suits. Black is a classic tie, especially with a lighter than navy/AFB suit. For conservative looks, I usually go dark reds and browns. If I had to pick my favorite tie with a navy suit, it might just be the chocolate fina that stitches has posted a few times. But that color is so striking, it might not be the most conservative choice.

I have worn this one with navy and a white shirt to subdued effect I think. http://www.samhober.com/macclesfield-print-silk-ties/macclesfield-printed-silk-tie-20.html

Frigi, PP is probably the best to help you on the ties your looking at it. Stitches may have worn purple a time or two as well as I recall. Perhaps they can shed some light on any trouble they've had pairing it with shirts. I don't have any purple myself. In my head it seems that purple would easily go with white. For blue shirts, my imagination seems to lead to the more contrast the better. Dark purple on sky blue. The lighter the purple, the harder it will be to wear on blue, especially shades darker than sky or very pale.
