I was about to place an order on a forest green piccola grenadine when I got a page error. now I can't find them on your site anymore? And is anybody else having problems seeing the pictures of the macclesfield ties? http://www.samhober.com/macclesfield-silk-print-ties/

aspasp,

We will have many more school ties in the future so yes, there is possibility but not in the next few months.

Here are photos of a unlined 7-fold Navy Grenadine Fina Silk Tie we recently made:

Just received my first order from David. Nothing to say that hasn't already been said in this thread, but I'm more than satisfied with the entire process from David's wonderful customer service to the impeccable construction and attention to detail. Not the best photos, but I wanted to share nonetheless.

The ties (from left to right): EPLT-4 (Pink/Navy/Red),EPDT-10 (Sky Blue dots on Brown),GT-16 (Forest Green), GT-12 (Slate Blue)

Just received notice that my order has shipped (Dark Navy Garza Grossa, lined 4-fold). I'm hoping I got the length right — I take a short jacket length and tend to wear trousers near my natural waist, so I ordered it in 54", but am slightly leery of the fact that I won't be able to do a more complicated knot to compensate if it's too long.

Thinking of doing a Garza Fina (or Piccola, if the Fina isn't available) in black for my next tie. Can anyone comment on its thickness when made up?

As far as length, you could always just take a standard 56 or 57 inch tie and wear it, then look how much of the back blade you could do without.

I have a Garza Fina in navy and its my favorite tie. I went with 6 fold and four would probably be just as good. I only tie a 4ih not though, any other knot would be enormous.

Just got the tie today. That was fast!

I think the length will be all right. The front and back blades are nearly the same length, but it's no problem. On a lark, I tied it in a Pratt knot just to see what would happen. It's definitely bigger than a Windsor with a regular tie, though maybe not quite comically large. At any rate, I don't think I'll need to resort to it.

Will post pics if my daughter will cooperate and go to sleep, though not looking especially likely today...

Now that I've got a moment, I wanted to share with everyone an experience I recently had dealing with David.

I had placed an order about a week before, when I got the news that my mother had been diagnosed with cancer. Now, I'm a graduate student and living on a tight budget, so buying ties from David is a bit of a luxury that I was rewarding myself with for a hard year of work. When I got the news about my mother, I suddenly realized that the money I had spent on the ties I'd ordered would need to be redirected to flying home to be with my family. Even though it had been a week since I'd ordered, and since Sam Hober is all about bespoke ties and therefore, quite understandably, has no refund policy, I emailed David, hoping that it wasn't too late and I could cancel my order. David responded, most graciously, saying that even though they have a no refund policy and that he would have to eat the fees from my credit card order, he would refund my purchase. On top of this, when I offered to at least cover his fees, so he wouldn't be at a loss, he said it wasn't an issue and that he wished the best for my family.

The point of all of this is that David Hober is one classy guy. He showed integrity and empathy towards me and my family in a time when many would not have. For my part, he has made me a customer for life. If I wear a tie, it will be a Sam Hober and I will proudly tell everyone where I got it and why they should give David their business.

Really sorry to hear about your mother. I hope she gets better and that your family gets through OK.

I couldn't agree more. That's because of David's humane and empathic customer service on my last order.

Thank you, David.

What a story! David is known for his legendary customer service, this is another one to add to that album.

I have been spared the family tragedy, but being in the service industry myself, I am absolutely amazed with David's passion and service . . . and so far I've only bought two ties from him.  I too am a customer for life, well, what's left of it! hehehe

Gradschooler and Tommi,

It is always difficult to know what to say in challenging times so I will simply say take care.

Dasai,

Sounds like your daughter is young. Samantha is 6 now and Benjamin 4, I often wish they would take naps on the weekends but it almost never happens...

A half-Windsor can be done and look good with a grenadine if tied tightly, but can cause abrasion with a grenadine.

Ordered a Dark Navy Fina, 6-fold, untipped, rolled edges. Can't wait, and will post pics when it arrives. David is fantastic to work with!
