Hi everyone,

Is there a Grenadine Grossa Solid swatch set available for lending? I ordered some other swatch sets a few weeks ago (fina, grossa stripe and the dot set) that I'll be willing to offer up for lending once I've received them and placed my (first!) order.

Best,

Matt

Question for Threadbearer (or anyone else who cares to answer). What kind of knot are you using in this pic? If I had to guess I'd go with double knot except you've passed the tie through both loops. Am I right?

Double four-in-hand. For some reason, that tie likes to knot with two small dimples on each side instead of one big dimple in the center. It's a happy accident.

But you pass the tie through both loops when making the knot, correct?

Yes. If you're trying to get that extra wrap to show near the bottom of your knot (as in my pic above) you need to pass the wide blade through the two outermost loops of the untightened knot.

Unfortunately, most of the videos I've seen on this subject recommend passing the wide blade through only the first loop of the untightened knot (the loop farthest from your body). What that does, though, is create a knot that looks like a standard 4-in-hand, but fatter.

Sorry I made you ask the question twice. I wasn't reading carefully. shog[1].gif

No problem! I did a bit of research on this after posting my original question. I think this knot is called the Prince Albert. The Victoria is similar except that it passes through the outer loop and is also called the double knot or double four in hand.

It would be nice to have a resource stickied here on knots and the like (pocket square folds, etc.) Everyone has different names for the same knot, or the same name for different knots. Can be quite confusing.

Looking forward to seeing the new macclesfield silk prints on the website.

@Threadbearer - Yes, this Prince Albert or whatever knot is interesting and something I've never seen before.  Either you have four actual hands or I'm retarded; I just cannot get the knot to work without ending up with a short sloppy mess on my chest.  Any helpful hints on achieving this look would be appreciated.

Sometimes when I'm working too fast I will accidentally pass the wide blade through all of the loops as I bring it down through the knot. When that happens, the whole thing falls apart in my hands. Bring the wide blade down through the two outer loops but not the third, and that should do the trick. Also, don't forget to start by giving yourself a lot more slack on the wide end of the tie than you would when tying a regular 4-in-hand. The double wrap uses up a LOT more material than you'd think.

Some new ties from Sam Hober. The first three are the Atkinsons Royal Irish Poplin. The last is the Grenadine Garza Grossa in Bitter Chocolate.

^^ Sonny58 that poplin twill is fantastic. Is that #61? I would love some more pictures.
