I did a search and found lots of suggestions for H&M, Zara, Brooks Bros., etc. Unfortunately, I don't live near any of these locations. Where can I buy a clean (meaning not off-) white dress shirt that's narrow / slim fitting online?

It'd be nice if they actually specified it was fitted so I don't have to guess. If not, and you just want to tell me based on experience (ie Express 1MX shirts often run slim), then that works too.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Brooks is available online. TM lewin and Tyrwhitt have slim/trim/fitted shirts online as well. Lands end has a tailored fit, and they've finally started offering tailored fit shirts in tall sizes, so I might try them out.

My Brooks Brothers, at size 16 x 36, is about 47 inches in the chest (i.e., ~3 inches trimmer in the chest and ~5 inches trimmer in the waist over the traditional fits).

I think the Tyrwhitts, at 16 x 36, measures at 45.5 in the chest and 44 in the waist.

This isn't exactly what you asked, but I'll give my .02 anyway.

I used to attempt purchasing otr slim-fit shirts from a ton of different companies. All I ended up with was a closet full of shirts that were just barely slimmer that regular shirts.

Once I totaled up all the $$ I had spent on these shirts I figured out that I could've instead purchased several quality MTM shirts.

So I ended placing a few MTM shirt orders. It took a few tries to get it right, but now they fit and look SO much better that anything else I've ever worn. Give it a shot. You won't be dissappointed.

NoVaguy just proved what i thought...the Tyrwhitt slim-fits are a little slimmer than the BB slim-fits. and i'm a fairly 'big' guy so if you're really skinny, your mileage may vary.

even still, i agree with Chris Rimby. a MTM dress shirt will even be slimmer than a Tyrwhitt slim-fit which is why i'm saving up for a whole bunch of Jantzens.

basically, if you can get the Tyrwhitt slim-fits for less than $40, they might be a good deal. otherwise not.

yeah, if i was super-slim, i would go with mtm. But I'm about a 41.5 chest and a 35-36 waist, which is a more of a slim to athletic and not a twiggy wanna-be. as it is, i find the BB slim fit to be pretty damn good, just right at the shoulders and chest and maybe 2 inches too big at the waist. the tyrwhitts to be somewhat tight at the chest, so BB slim fit is probably gonna be my go to item.

The tyrwhitt and lewin regular fits seem to be midway between BB trad fit and BB slim fit. tywhitts sleeves are definitely slimmer. but keep in mind that I went up to a 16.5 for lewin (their collars run tight).

I also played around with lands' end custom fit. It's not a bad idea. It doesn't really offer as much customization as janzten, but it is a legitimate US company and I don't like dealing with credit transactions with in Asia.

you may want to give mtm a try. you might rescue your present shirts by haveing them tapered.

Thanks for the responses everyone. The problem with MTM is even though they are "affordable" at $50 a piece, I think it'd take many mistakes before they could get it right. Also, I know my neck and sleeve measurement as taken for my high school prom years ago and though they are pretty much the same (ie my arms didnt get longer), I don't really know other measurements I might need. MTM sort of scares me.

Don't be scared. If you ever have questions about measuring, the shirtmakers that frequent this forum would probably be glad to help you out.

Is it not sensible to send one of your more fitting shirts aswell as pictures, and perhaps a description of what you want to change/how you want it to fit?

I ended up getting one from Nordstrom Rack, from the Nordstrom line which is supposed to be somewhat fitted? Even when I get my "correct" size, 15/33, I feel the sides have too much material

For around $15, you can have a tailor take it in. This will improve the fit dramatically.

I used to do this, but I now buy my shirts MTM. I use the Lands End "custom" program and Brooks Brothers MTM.

For Lands End, I measured myself, bought one shirt, measured it, measured my best-fitting shirt, and changed the measurements on the website to correspond to my best-fitting shirt. Once I was happy with the fit, I made multiple orders. It cost me the price of 2 so-so shirts before I was happy and I could have returned the first two shirts with no questions asked, but they're serviceable.

With Brooks Brothers, I returned the first shirt because one cuff was way too narrow and the second shirt was almost perfect, so my third order was for multiple shirts. The price is a daunting $162 each, though.

I recently got two TM Lewin shirts on eBay and they are quite slim through the body. This is the first brand of shirt that I haven't had to take into the tailor for slimming. It is so slim its almost too tight, but I recommend them for the excellent price/quality ratio. Tons of them on ebay.

What does a tailor do to take a shirt in? Is it a big deal where I have to worry about which tailor I choose or can any do it (like hemming some pants)?
