Tell me about analog camcorders

I want to get a cheap 90's analog camcorder to use as an effect on a future video.
What do you guys know about these cameras? Which formats are easiest to transfer to digital?
Is there an effect that can be applied to digital to simulate this?

Hi-8 ? the effect would be - interlaced video, difficulty recording dark or light scenes (crushed blacks), etc. Before that was Super 8 film, which is progressive format, oversaturated colors, grain, and a softness to the images.

Test before you buy. The old ones sometimes need to be cleaned if they will record at all. I think that they last a long time and are obsolete so it will likely be cheap to buy online somewhere.
You can get an 8mm or the real old ones like my grandparents had that record right onto a vhs tape, but are huge. You can transfer to digital with the right hook ups. google can tell you what to use exactly for what you want to do.
