I agree with this to a point. I think its going to be tough for anyone to see the difference between multiple pairs of black captoes. However, I think in most cases, people will notice the sleekness of a Lobb on the 7000 versus and AE and make an almost subconscious connection in their mind - that one looks sleeker/nicer/more expensive.

Now, if you put a Lobb captoe in parisian brown museum calf next to an AE in its monotone brown color, I would think this would be "no contest."

As a person with a ton of black shoes the difference visually in the leather alone is very different across price spectrums.

This is normally when someone posts the photo essay of the blobby park avenue vs the sleek eg and they look exactly the same

Part of the difference between the AE and Lobb is the rest of the package. A Lobb owner is much more likely to be wearing higher quality shirts, suits, socks... that fit. Meanwhile, a pair of AEs is much more at risk of being paired with a mass produced suit after not being taken care of with shoe trees and polish.

At the end of the day, if you care that much about the price then you probably can't afford it.

I have had women comment on articles of clothing. I once had a woman ask if everything I was wearing was made of cashmere. I'm not sure why. I think the answer was no but I forget what I told her.

Girls tend to comment on things that are more in-your-face. If you have a deep rich brown patina, or burgundy shoes they will like them. In my experience men have always commented on the shine, or condition of my shoes and not the brand or style itself.

The average run of the mill millionaire with the majority of their net worth tied up in illiquid assets like their house SHOULD be buying AE's and NOT John Lobbs.

I believe Lobb produces less than 40,000 pairs of shoes per year. There are more than 10million millionaires in the world. Lobb is targeting people worth $30MM+.

You mean they are not targeting SF member's who are barely scraping by at the poverty level ($250k)?

I had a late 30s fem compliment my walnut Strands one evening by calling them fancy. With that said, I have given away my AEs due to fit and am down to 1 remaining Alden due to sloppy construction.
