Romance

How do you personally create romance in relationships, new or old?

Can planned romance ever be unaffected?

I used to think romance was cheesy, but as I've grown older I've realized that romance is what separates the artistic life from the simply functional.

okay, my honest answer. If you want romance, for God's sake, don't marry an argumentative lawyer-type who wears sensible shoes. Look for someone who takes pleasure in small, meaningless things (no penis jokes, thank you) because those are the sort of gestures that add color to a relationship.

I'm sure plenty of guys on here can give great advice about romance. Romance comes naturally to me. And if Metro was looking for advice on how to keep a slowly dying relationship alive for 5 years through large monthly romantic gestures, I could talk to him all day.

no thanks to thomas i now feel compelled to give my 2 serious cents.

i think as the relationship continues sometimes people feel that romance can only be sustained by doing bigger more exciting things, which eventually becomes impractical or even impossible. it may sound cliche, but similar to what thomas said, the same small bouquet of flowers that charmed her after 2 dates will work as well or better after 10 years. little stuff like that is highly underestimated, and highly effective in the world of romace in my experience.

Romance and alpha are like matter and anti-matter.

Not interested in romantic advice. More interested in how other SFers feel about romance and how they've used it in their lives. Flowers are one thing (effective if not creative) but I'm sure there are some more creative/meaningful examples out there. I expect that many examples of romance are only romantic given the unique situation of a given relationship. Perhaps these are the most romantic moments as they cannot be copied or mass-produced with the same effect.

So what are you looking for? You want to know how people create romance, but don't want their romantic advice?

in the end, doesn't it depend on the girl when it comes to the levels of romance?
