Agreed. Plus, Lindsey Buckingham may be the only popular musician to play an essentially 2 note solo. Does it mean that much? Not really. Is it sort of interesting to hear someone do something like that besides an obscuro Kraut rock band? Marginally!

Glee speaks to a sizable but relatively alienated demographic (gay/awkward/theatery [pre]teens who love musicals but don't actually "get" music) that doesn't have a lot of media espousing their particular narratives. It connects with those kids and people who used to be like those kids, hence it's popularity. It's like Sex and the City. Yes it sucks, but at the time, middle aged women didn't have anything else.

On the topic of the show, some of the girls I know whom enjoy watching Glee actually do watch it for the storyline, drama, ect. But these are also the same girls who watch shows like the bachelor and various mtv stuff. I for one cringe at the corny tween drama bs.
