It sounds like for the vast majority of us you wouldn't be seeing any real benefit with more.

Lyle McDonald, the author of those articles, would agree. He recommends 1.5g/lb for natural trainees in a caloric deficit. Any more is just an expensive source of calories.

I am a vegetarian that is also on a very low / slow carb diet. I have lost 60lb of fat 2010, and I still have bulky shoulders and upper body.

I eat eggs, nuts, vegetables, and lots and lots of legumes. Lentils are a complete protein, and many beans are a complete protein if they are sprouted.

You need to make sure to eat at least 30g of protein with every meal. Cut back on your carbs, and fill up on proteins.

Keep going to the gym.

Also, don't track your weight. It is very misleading and discouraging. You want to train your body to burn fat and not muscle. That means eating a normal amount.

Eat a protein rich meal within 30 min of waking up. Don't eat carbs after 6pm. It works.

Started going well, I went on diet about a week before hitting the gym again in full force. However, there is a cold going around and I am currently stuck in bed. So things are on pause, but even with 3 weeks, I've been able to see a noticeable difference.

Except for the last section. I've read many pro bodybuilders state the same thing. Also, I have tried it and it does seem to work (for me).

its been shown many times that the time you eat your food doesnt change anything. only calories matter.

however, some people have good success in limiting food consumption by limiting the times in which they consume them.

if it works for you great, but its not great science. 6 pm is rather arbitrary, no?

it 'worked' for you because you ate fewer calories, not because there's a magic time after which all humans store carbs as fat.

Is every calorie created equally?

No. I mean you assume that, but I offset it (i.e. same amount of calories) by eating more meat and veggies during my last 2 meals of the day.

protein has a higher thermic effect of food.

plus, you were probably making other weight-conscious changes during the day; more activity, less high calorie junk, etc.

seriously, the 6pm rule is bunk.

here's a post i made on the subject in another thread: http://www.styleforum.net/showpost.p...3&postcount=37
