Couldn't the same thing be accomplished by, say, alternating ones (circular) route every time. As in run 1: do lap counterclockwise, run 2: versa vice.

There are a lot of hills around here so for now I will just continue with the walks and make sure to climb a lot of hills.

Walking on an incline is great for you.

I suppose this is possible -- it's just not what was suggested.

The other thing I like about the "out and back" system is that it is fairly predictable wrt time. Say you want to run for 40 minutes, just run out for 20 and turn around.

It avoids the slant just as well, I guess. True about the timing though.

That's what I've been doing. Max incline on the treadmill, brisk walk (usually a little over 4MPH).

I'd love to be able to say "nope. I can't take that call at 8am because it's my workout hour and oh, yeah, I'M THE FUCKING PRESIDENT." Or to put in a nice hour workout on board my personal 747 while an assistant reads me my mail, instead of being wedged into coach for 5 hours next to some fat guy snooping at my laptop screen.
