Florsheim Imperial Otavio Fit Question

Ok, so I bought these at the Mens Wearhouse because I had a $100 in store credit. I didnt get AE because mens wearhouse only carries rubber soled AEs and I prefer leather soles when wearing suite.

My concern is the fit on these seems to run a little big on length although the width is just perfect. If you read the 2nd review on the link the person mentions these run a size too big. I'm a 10-1/2 I dont think a 10 would feel right width-wise. The cap on these is the narrower square type and tends to point up/elevate a little from my toes not being close to the tip. Is this how these should be or should I try a size 10 or EEE to compensate for the width and get my toes closer to the tip of the cap thus keeping it down rather than slightly elevated? I've always worn 10-1/2 in all the shoes I've owned.

Will they make an exchange although I already wore them for one full day?

Thanks in advance for any advice...

Welcome to Styleforum. If you haven't already worn them, please return them immediately and since the store sells AE, put aside your disdain for rubber soles and get a pair of AE...better yet, tell us which models they carry and we'll suggest one for you.

Wore them already a full day...ooops. I hope square toe will come back again someday Would they really be that horrible to wear now?

Well it's already done so don't worry about it. As far as the shoes being a touch long, don't worry about it either. I have plenty of shoes with roomy toeboxes. It's just the way the last (shape) was designed. If everything else about them fits ok, then you are good to go. In future though, avoid the square toes. Chiseled toes are acceptable, and the ones you have are somewhere in between so not to worry.

Thanks! I thought they were kind of in between.

I agree with Man of Lint. Even if the AE shoes MW carries are rubber-soled, they are still going to be better quality than the Florsheims. I have a couple pairs of AE shoes that have rubber soles for work (Van Ness and Sutter), and they are quite nice. At least these are part of the Imperial line, which is better quality than regular Florsheim models. Anyway, as the old saying goes, if the shoe fits then wear it. If the width is fine and your foot isn't slipping, then I would say keep them. You may not be able to return them anyway since you wore them already.

Five years down the road, I still have the Otavio because I enjoy it.  Certainly isn't a first choice in a small assortment like a classic Alden or an Allen Edmonds, but with a new, much higher quality sole and heel attached, it's still fun.  And, if you like the style, it still looks great.  I have many AE's and even pricier shoes I didn't like enough to keep as long.
