This story was reported awhile back and glad to hear he's HIV free for years and cured of the disease. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of HIV/AIDS.

Wait, so 1% of Caucasians are immune to the HIV? Oh, man. If I discovered I was immune, oh, a-whorin' we would go!

yeah thats true-i remember from an immuno class i took. a gene mutation in CCR5 surface receptor protein prevents HIV from attaching to healthy macrophages or something. too bad most sub sahara population won't fall in that 1%

Does it make him immune? What about the other strain of HIV? I seem to remember reading there are signs of a third strain? HIV if caught early (and if the carrier is on medication) is seen as a chronic disease. Hep C would take you out before HIV>AIDS would.

If this is true, why is it not huge news?

Does anyone who keeps up with medical news know if it is possible to get genetically tested for the immune gene and how much that would cost?

It was big when it was first reported on two years ago:
http://articles.cnn.com/2009-02-11/h...4?_s=PM:HEALTH

That and it's not really something that can easily cure all (or most) people at this point given the dangers invovled.
