But seriously, invest in a bow tie or two.

+1 on having at least a couple bow ties.

Hello, for my first post on the forum!

I believe that when people are talking about shirt points and fit, they're talking about the collar type. I come from the UK and we have 5 - 10 different forms of collar, depending on how you tie your tie.

I'd personally recommend my favourite which we generally call a Windsor (but I think Americans call it a cutback?).

That's not one of my shirts, just an internet find.

Joff

p.s. If anyone can show me how to embed a picture it would be appreciated...

here are a few, it's really about the relationship between the collar and the coat lapels for me, there are a lot others, look in the CBD thread:

Thanks for the thought, MS, but it would only be an investment if I actually wore bow ties. They're not for me.

I hope you'll all forgive me now for repeating a request from my OP. Please take a look at the following ties and tell me if you would consider them staples, desirable non-necessities, or poor investments.

I would say the kent wang glen plaid, while a great tie (I recently purchased it as my standard wedding tie), would be a "desirable non-necessity" as you already have a houndstooth that would work well for a wedding.

Ed, ok so the collar should be covered by the jacket

Just re-reading this thread and recalling the advice in post #9 above.

An update from the OP wouldn't be out of place as well. Unless he was waiting to update annually.

I'll play along, if TB doesn't mind me shitting up his thread with my own request for tie advice. Here are pics of the current collection...you can get a pretty good sense of what my wardrobe/style is like by looking through my tumblr if you haven't seen my WAYWRN posts....

8th pic being the one with the pindot, the two stripes, and the brown with blue neats? well...I guess we just have really different taste in ties...

Maybe, but the pics are hard to see details with. The 2 stripes look like Chaps ties.

Also here are better pics from the site that sells the ties (currently withheld so as not to unduly influence judgement of said ties):

Ok, keep the brown pindot, it looks like an 80's dior geometric in the photo but its actually quite nice.

Most of your stuff is nice, dont think I am being too critical...
