Taking in a coat...

Hello, Is it possible for the chest area of a coat to be taken in, and still have the inherent structure there? Also could any competent tailor do this, and what would be the price estimate? Thank you.

Labelking, My tailor was able to do this, but it did throw off the ballance of the coat a bit. He said normally they can only alter the chest size down a half-size to a size (42 down to 41.5 or 41). He was able to take two very nice jackets I had purchased down from a 44 to a 40. Basically, he had to open the entire back seam (cut the coat in half) and trim the material...overall though it doesn't look half-bad. I think he might have given me a very discount rate but he charged me $70 to have both jackets taken down, plus to have the waist taken in and the sleeves shortened, and one pair of pants adjusted in the waist. Not a bad deal.
