I am still close friends with a couple of the bro's, none of whom cared how willing I was to eat disgusting food, and the rest of the brothers can fuck themselves. In my opinion, the frat fucked up because I am/was one of the more social brothers, even though I have now essentially disaffiliated.

This was at a top 10 school.

This brings fond memories of a pledge brother of mine that everyone hated and then never hung out when we got in. Dunno why he bothered pledging or didn't drop out.

I don't think I was disliked. I was elected to the exec. board the semester after pledging and was active for two semesters, but there were three or four brothers who I disliked so much that going to events wasn't worth having to be around them. I don't know. Pledging meant something to a couple of the guys that it didn't mean to everyone else, and those were the guys who I didn't get along with. I'm sure that every frat has a different dynamic, but these were the weirdos of the frat -- like, the guys who cared too much because they didn't have anything else going on (which was presumably because they were so fucking weird). But who knows. I also never cried in the locker room before or after big lacrosse games, which got me in trouble with the weirdos on the lacrosse team, but I'm still good friends with the rest of the team. It could be a personality thing.

I always knew TKE's were pussies: http://www.theeagleonline.com/news/story/tke-under-investigation-for-hazing/

Excerpt:

AU’s chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon is the subject of a University hazing investigation for the second time in the past year, according to members of the fraternity.

Five of its brothers accused the fraternity of physically and verbally abusing pledges. Alleged practices include forcing pledges to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana; do planks, wall sits, pushups and extensive walking; drink an entire gallon of milk in one hour or less (known as the “gallon challenge”); eat an entire jar of mayonnaise; and other tasks detailed by an active brother of TKE who asked to remain anonymous.

Hazing this extensive has been common practice since the Upsilon-Omicron chapter’s inception at AU in 2008, according to the anonymous member.

Suckers ratted out their own chapter!

When I was a pledge there was actual hazing.

Yeah, none of that is all that bad. If I had known that was the worst of it, I'd've rushed.

Doesnt sound that bad. Then again, we focused on other shit. Alcohol challenges are banned for pledges, but they can get drunk on some occasions if they want to, with respect to alcohol they always will have the chance to refuse without repercussions. Eating mayo and that sort of thing wont happen.

We were more focused on mind games, figuring out what kind of person pledges are under duress and how they react to different situations. In the end it was all focused on building a bond within a year, and trust within the fraternity. Testing them physically is just par for the course, and more of a setup for the mind games.

I do look back with fondness to that period in my life, even the hazing part wasnt that bad knowing the bigger plan now...

But it is a very specific situation than can bring up the worst in some people, which is why you should never leave anyone alone with a pledge..

just my thoughts on the subject...

A bit, and a lot of this:

Its not in English, but take it through google translate..

We did have a guy end up in a mental hospital, but it turned out that the 'situation' we put him in just triggered his latent schizophrenia..

I've seen some guys with brands. Usually black frats. That's hardcore.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this recently.. It's almost in a similar vein.

Though we were pretty rough, I like to think we tried to link our "activities" with some sort of lesson/bonding bs.
