sneaker options for the gym (i.e., not running sneakers)

I have been using Nike Free's the past few years for both running and gym, they seem to wear out super fast and although decent for running, they suck @ the gym, especially when doing lunges, squats, plyometrics, etc.

I recently started using the Kinvara's for strictly running (they are amazing!) but now need a 'gym' shoe... not really sure what to go with though.

New Balance seems to have some nice offerings, I am kind of done with Nike, Adidas, etc.

Chuck Taylor all stars. Unless you want real lifting shoes. Then for a lot more money Addidas makes them.

really? can't tell if this is a joke or not....

I was more trying to find out some cross-trainers ppl have used and liked, I have tried on a few and they all feel bulky and heavy.

+1 on Chuck Taylors (if not barefoot) for lifting, especially anything in the squat rack (dl, squats, lunges, etc.) Switch shoes for plyo.

It's because they're flat and uncushioned. Normal trainers have big cushiony heels that force you onto your toes more when you're squatting etc.

Anything with a flat sole for doing big barbell compound lifts, doesn't really matter otherwise. I use some Adidas kundos or something and they're the comfiest shit ever. Chucks are fugly, but probably the best option.

I use some of the laceless chucks and they work great. Look better if I am wearing workout pants rather than shorts but oh well.

i wore chucks in the gym for years, but they never looked right with workout pants.

now i wear indoor soccer shoes. theyre flat, stable, and now i don't look i forgot my gym shoes.

Out of curiosity, why do shoes sold as weightlifting shoes specifically all seem to have heels, but ya'll are basically recommending the flattest shoe made? They have heels so that you push through your heels when you squat or deadlift, the heel wouldn't make a different for any other lift. People like converse not because they're flat, but because they don't have a compressible sole.
