YEsterday they took the money out of her account (after a order confirmation a week ago or something), only this time they took out a whopping AUD$778.
GF tells me BB told them that this is because of the exchange rate, but no fucking way it is because the Aussie dollar is beating the greenback and has been for some time.

The dollar is cheaper than the Aussi dollar just slightly, which means that the number in AUD should be lower than the number in USD. Sounds like you are getting screwed. Chances are, among other things, they are not honoring the 15% stacking. They are sleezy assholes when it comes to that. On Black Friday I went into the Plano, TX store where they were having 40% off of sweaters and vests. The lady there said she'd give me the corporate card discount too since I had my card on me. I asked her several times, "ARE YOU SURE you will stack it on top of the sale"? She said yes several times. I spent almost an hour picking out several sweaters including going with her on the computer to look at expensive ones online they didn't carry in the store. When I finally went to ring up, she rang me up without the stacking (I guess hoping I wouldn't notice). When I caught her and asked about it, she acted like it was no big deal and said "oh we can't stack it on the sale" and assumed of course I would still make my purchases anyway since I spent so much time. I was livid and walked out. They're probably doing the same thing to you now.

I love Brooks Brothers' stuff, but sales commissions make shopping there an intensely miserable experience.

As to the other person saying there is a forex fee added, that shouldn't be the case. The credit card company charges YOU that, not the vendor. The vendor should not be charging you any forex fees. And it will come as a separate charge on your credit card bill labeled as a forex fee -- not included in the price you're paying now. Sounds like you are getting screwed by Brooks Brothers (welcome to the club. Drinks are on the table in the corner).

There are some real a-hole SA's to avoid at Brooks Brothers - and really demonstrate the need to find a good SA and treat him/her right.  Besides the ones that ignore you, I've had SA's pull similar stunts.  One SA blatantly lied to me in saying that I could not get my corporate card 15% discount on a Brooks buy non-sale item (two pairs of pants for $220) when the website applies this very same discount.  He then had the gall to shove his card on me and ask me to request him in the future.  In another situation, the tailor told me there would be no charge for hemming a pair of suit pants, which led to the SA clearing his throat, making eye contact with the tailor and (wink, wink) reminding him there would be a $20 alteration fee (cue me rolling my eyes at the blatant rip-off).  A third tried to shove me into a clearly too small sport coat because it was what he had in stock and he wanted to make a sale.

This is why you latch on to a good SA when you find one.

That's a shame. The one time I went to the BB in Plano (Willow Bend mall) I had a good experience with the SA, Andrew.

Most likely because of your bank fees as well as FX rates, I doubt BB would try to screw you over.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'd be very surprised if a bank rolled up fees into the original ring up, and even more surprised if they are charging him 11% fees.

Put This On claims that they heard from someone who heard from someone that there is a 20% kicker added to things bought on Monday, in addition to the sale. That's hard for me to believe but would be oh so awesome if true.

Called customer service and asked them to check stock for a couple of Fitzgerald jackets in 38S or 38R and no luck.

Why not? You don't ever get the actual exchange rate in any transaction

The source indicates the kicker may be in-store only plain.gif

Sales associates don't make commission on alterations. I know I used to work for um.

Well I read the comments and the author says he got it from the SF forum, which is basically this thread, so now because one guy said an SA said it would be 20% off, it's all over the place.  I thought that post was confirming what we heard here, but it was actually just repeating it.

Well I suppose it's possible, but I've traveled in 17 countries and have never been charged an 11% transaction fee in any of them, especially rolled into the original purchase itself rather than as an extra forex transaction fee, and this includes third world countries.  And the exchange rate with AUS is nowhere near that bad. What sounds more likely to me is the SA is not giving the 15%  discount as promised.
