I know a 20% sale ended recently... Any indication of the next 25% sale, or anything else that might be good for purchasing two staple Fitzgerald suits?

I anticipate another 30% off corporate incentive sale in May.

Good to know--thanks for the tip.

I have an event on May 18 I'd like to wear it to. Can I expect the sale early enough in the month to allow enough time for tailoring?

That sounds perfect. Based on last year, the 1-day corporate 30% will be May 22, which would be too late for me.

The $1198 Saxxon Fitzgeralds are currently 2 for $1499. Is that temporary, or should I be able to stack the 25% with the $1499 price?

Thanks for your help, everyone.

I know the corporate discount sale will stack with the "2 for" or "3 for", but I am not sure about F&F, though for some reason I don't think F&F stacks.

If you navigate to the BB website, they seem to be having a weekend clearance sale. It's a lot of odd stuff, and mostly extra-slim fit. I haven't seen it mentioned yet so I figured I'd bring it up here.

I apologize if this has been asked before (I used the search feature). Regarding sales, how do I best go about buying my first BB suit or two either in charcoal or navy? Hopefully I'd like the suit(s) by August, but I can wait till next spring if I can save substantially more.

I'm confused by discussions of inventory of staple items vs. trendy/seasonal wear, F&F sales vs. the June or after-Xmas one, etc. I'm a 1L law student. I've saved about $1100 for 1-2 quality suits although I'll have $2000 by Xmas. I already own 3 cheap, slim-fit, polyester suits. Shoes, shirts, and ties have been taken care of for now.

I don't have a BB-branded credit card nor a corporate membership card. I also don't have any relationship with a BB sales associate.

*I live in Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, there aren't as many places that sell good quality suits unlike NYC.

Since you are willing to wait up to a year, I recommend doing so. It will allow you to find the best sale and will also allow you the best fit. If you get the suits now, it is possible your body might change by next spring. The best sale I have seen at BB is the day after Christmas. I was only looking at shoes at that point, but it was %25+15% (about %37 total) off all shoes except shell and Edward Green. I don't recall what the suit sale was.

As for your first 2 suits, I recommend one of each: charcoal and navy. The Brooks Brothers 1818 line should be fine. It looks like they have a standard 2 suits for $1500. I believe a corporate discount can be applied to this (search this forum to find out how to get one). You will probably want to open the credit card also. This gives you an additional %15 off, and is the only discount I have seen that stacks on top of everything.

As for staple items vs. seasonal wear, a charcoal and navy suit are good staple items. Since you live in Texas, you may want to consider a half or quarter lined jacket, if offered. I'm not really sure what they have. When you only have 2 suits (let's forget about the polyester ones for now), you really can't do seasonal items. Once you get up around 4 or so, it makes sense to venture out into more seasonal items (linen and fresco in the summer, flannel in the winter, though maybe not in Texas).

Two options:

1.  If buying one suit, go in the week before Christmas and work with an SA to pick out a suit for the December 26th sale.  Discount will be 30% off plus an additional  (15-20% kicker).  The year before last, I picked up a solid charcoal Fitz for $505 plus tax.  Due to price increases, it will be somewhere around $550 - 600 this upcoming December 26th.

2.  If buying two suits, pick it up at one of the 30% off corporate incentive card sales.  In solid basics, it will be two for $1,500 plus the 30% discount, so $1,050 plus tax for two suits.

Regarding inventory, I've never had a problem picking up solid 1818 Fitz's during the Christmas sale, but some of the specific patterned Fitz suits do sell out out by that time.  If you go with the corporate incentive sale, you should have full inventory to select from.

Regarding corporate card, check with the American Bar Association and your state bar association.  If you join one of these organizations as a student, they typically also have perks that could include the ability to get a corporate incentive card.  Also check with your law school, maybe you can get one through it?

Don't worry about relationship with an SA.  Buying a suit is a good time to develop a relationship with an SA.  Some of them do not want to hassle with small purchases, but will work with you on a suit.

They've been having 80% off weekend sales for a couple of weeks which are supposed to be linked through BB's Facebook page.

I picked up a couple of Madison fit Saxxon wool suits in November for $440 each...much better than the day after Christmas sale. Just keep your eyes open and be ready to buy at a moments notice.

Can you describe the specific circumstances? Were they in the Clearance section at $550, when an "Extra 20% Off Clearance" promo hit? Something else?
