The only reason I stay on Facebook is so that other people think I'm cool, have an exciting life, and have the perfect marriage. The only reason I stay on SF is so that people think I'm a boring, depressed nerd with a terrible marriage.

I just got a notification that someone had commented on a friend's post. I thought it was odd as I haven't touched any posts by that guy in years.

Clicked on it and it was a "glad to hear you are ok" comment on a post about an accident from 2 years ago. wtf?

Betimes people will become friends with someone new and then go through that person's whole FB history (especially photos) and comment on crap from years earlier.

I wrote a rant about something like that on another thread. Never heard of people commenting on old post, but likes? definitely.

Alright, I'm already over the Prince shit. He was amazing talented and I enjoyed some of his music very much. But come on. I'd bet you that at least half of the people competing in social media to prove they are the most devastated by his passing haven't listened to any of his music since before he changed his name from Prince to that symbol.

As more facts come in about his death, two lyrics come to mind: "Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down..." Prince was found this morning in his Paisley Park Studio Elevator. He was headed to the bottom floor.
"Sometimes it snows in April" This was the theme song to Christopher's death in the film Under The Cherry Moon. Christopher as we know was played by Prince.
One more: "Life is just a party, and parties weren't meant to last..."

OMG HE DIED IN AN ELEVATOR AND HE ONCE SANG A SONG WITH A LYRIC THAT MENTIONED AN ELEVATOR HOW TRIPPY AND IRONICAL IS THAT!!1!

I never got Prince. And I was around during his heyday. I'm not without sympathy for his death, but....I don't get why he was considered so good confused.gif

You may well have seen this, because it's all over the interwebz today. You have to watch or fast-forward pretty far in to get to Prince's bit, but his playing really is phenomenal. The smile on the face of Harrison's kid when Prince leans back into the crowd is also worth the price of admission.

I think the most interesting thing is that Prince so tightly controlled the online presence of his music that people can't do the lazy shit. Namely, a link to their favorite song on YouTube and some quick "omg, I'm so sad." Spares me from having to avoid six million things with "When Doves Cry" embedded in them. Plus, it leads to reading cool shit, like Questlove's story about rollerskating with Prince...

I was (obviously) around for his heyday too. I didn't like all of his music but why was he considered so good? Because he was a fucking genius is why.

Lucky you. Shit's all over my FB feed. And purple-tinted pictures of Minneapolis. Etc.

I'm lucky to have some musician/performer friends, because it allows me to pretend I'm cooler and more talented than I am. But on days like this it comes back to haunt me.

Maybe that's it. I don't like most of his music. But I can appreciate his skill and originality
