I believe the Kanye West-Taylor Swift meme ("I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish…") was instrumental in proliferating this in white culture.
I've noticed some of my facebook friends using "imma" more and more, as in "Imma go to the store." Do people really talk that way, or do they just represent themselves as talking that way on the Internet? FWIW, these people are in their late 30s, so I'm 99% sure they did not grow up saying "imma."
