Holy shit, you can't make this stuff up. A friend of mine, very nice gal, Ivy League grad, but she posted this today:

Douglas' Friend
I started a new business today! Douglas' Friend Media is up and running for anyone looking for a Social Media Manager. Small businesses who need someone to manage and analyze your Facebook, G+ or Pinterest pages and/or Twitter and Instagram feeds, I am your gal! I can also do newsletters and email blasts and contribute to your company blog.

Original Poster: I think I am going to add a page to the existing blog, [other friend]. But, it's in my LinkedIn profile too. May be time to do that About.me page as well.

What's worse is the people who generate a demand for this type of thing. I'm surprised by the number of people who think they can't utilize social media correctly just because another generation invented it. Some of the least productive and worthless people in society master this stuff in a matter of hours, yet people are willing to hire someone to do it for them, as if it takes a true professional. Some of these outlets are and should be perceived negatively in certain circles of the professional world. On a side note, based on my facebook feed and what I've witnessed over the past year or so, meeting a woman that uses instagram would be an immediate red flag in terms of a dating prospect.

I'm bothered by the idea that "personal social media branding" is supposedly essential for everybody regardless of your career path. I'm pretty sure 99% of us have nothing particularly interesting to say and social media has nothing to do with what we do for a living, so can we just be professionals, do our freaking jobs, and not have to make a big show about putting some public face up on a blog and Twitter?

Winner, winner, fried chicken dinner.

Holy shit this made me laugh.

I have learned from my politicking experiences that the volunteers who do the least but talk the most office are middle aged, somehow "disabled," and suffering from fibromyalgia. Every campaign in the USA has this person.

So this is your long-term career goal, I take it?
