I think it's a southern thing. I grew up wearing them.

She works as a promotions girl for a "Girls Gone Wild"-type company that goes from bar to bar, inducing drunk girls to show their tits and lick whipped cream off each other.

So yeah, she's pretty much my dream girl.

Could she get any more perfect? The answer is yes.

I think funerals and weddings have something to do with black suits. In Flyover Country and Blue Collar Land people only wear suits to weddings and funerals. Rented tux = black so folks just get taught black = dressed up.

If I'm honest, I'd say tha if you're the type of man who wears a suit once or twice a year then black is probably the best choice; it covers weddings, funerals, black tie and even interviews. If the money you would spend on a suit would otherwise go to repairing your tractor or buying chicken feed, then forget beingSF approved and get your Swiss army suit.

Black only disappears from a wardrobe when you have the luxury of two or more suits.

Navy or gray covers all of that just as well, and in most cases better.

Not if you live in Blue Collar Land or Flyover Country. Everyone else will be in black, and when you're in your "monkey suit," the last thing you want is to not blend in.

I'm pretty sure I live in flyover country.

But you are an SF member and thus disqualified from non-black suit observations irregardless.

I live in St. Louis, which some would regard as flyover country (others not so much). I'll tell you what happens to me, people say "oh I really like that black suit!" Whenever people say this to me, they are speaking falsely because I do not wear of black suit; they are commenting either on a suit that is navy or a suit that is charcoal. I think it must be inconceivable to them that a suit can be dark and nice looking and not black.

Irregardless?

It mostly seems to be younger guys I see wearing black suits inappropriately. Older gents usually know enough to wear navy or grey.

Well, I think this ties into what I was about to post.

The flyover/blue collar men of yore still had reason to wear suits on occasion (or their dads did). Whether it was for church sundays or it just being what you wore when you went in to town from your farm to take care of your banking...there was a time when suits were still standard clothing and often still made by a local tailor. You would probably have had to actively try to get a black suit (as opposed to now where you just grab one off the clearance rack).

The dudes in the 20-30 range today...their grandpas knew the truth. Their dads may have absorbed some of it growing up...and as such don't do black suits but don't really know why..."they've just always been a navy/gray kind of guy". Now the younger guy's haven't been seeing it, and their own dads don't know it is weird, so they go with black. They wore it to prom...so it should be a good enough color for anything.

I think the rock star thing has some truth to it...The young folk just haven't seen much else besides what the cool people on TV wear and what their lame old dad wears (which is correct, but he only owns 1-2 suits so it's clearly just because he never got around to buying a black one or wasn't cool enough to rock one).
