That's why I take my ring off when I lift. Deglovement is no joke.

That would be an instant defriendment if someone posted that on his feed and I had to see it

I'm just going to post pictures of boats from facebook until that thing is off of the "recent images in this thread" block:

Here's my dad waiting for the wind to come up so the world championships can start (well I guess it's not technically my dad, since he is behind the camera). Photo is dumb because there isn't enough wind.

This one is dumb because that's clearly too much weight to have in a sunfish:

This one is dumb because I am tagged in it but not 100% sure it is actually me...

This one is dumb because this boat clearly can't float...why would you make a boat that can't float?

Is that thing gone yet?

Also, a lot of sailors don't wear wedding rings, and I think it is for the same reason. Only takes one thing catching on it to cause some nasty shit.

Thanks, man.

I happened upon a thread on sailing anarchy (the SF of sailing) talking about wedding rings.

Seemed to range from "Holy shit never sail with your ring on, you will lose your fingers" to "I don't want to damage/lose it so I keep it in my bag" to "I've sailed for years and never had a problem...in fact I lost part of two fingers on the *other* hand and the ring finger's still good". A few people had stories about getting rings caught on other things and having to cut them off of throbbing blue fingers...and there were some admonishments that you should treat the loads on big boats like you would treat any other heavy equipment, but there were still some sticklers on the ring being ok, especially if you wear gloves.

Then people came across the term degloving and started posting photos and a lot more people moved to "holy shit I am never getting on a boat with a ring on ever again". Degloving's probably not as bad as actually losing the finger (which is equally likely)...but the pictures are a lot more horrifying.

L'inc's style of writing may be catching on beyond Styleforum (where we are currently posting and reading). A former high school classmate posted this on Facebook:

I heard on the news that the Cards(Cardinals) and Bucs (Pirates) are playing game 5 for the other NLDS game. I want to see the Pirates win so that the Dodgers can have home field advantage!

He hasn't quite mastered the idiom yet, but he seems to have the general idea.

So does 85% of the population, with 100% less awareness.

I want to incorporate betimes into my lexicon but I still don't understand it. Google tells me it means early (not sure if it actually replaces early in a sentence). I think on sf it replaces sometimes?
