As it happens, the girl who posted this is among the least attractive of my facebook friends (I know her through karoke,) although- contrary to what people here seem to think- a fondness for mawkish platitudes runs the full spectrum of attractiveness.

There are some viral aphorisms I think are genuinely clever (ex: "The difference between 'try' and 'triumph' is a little 'umph',") although this one is just a disaster in every sense.

I respectfully disagree. While physical attractiveness might run the gamut, actual attractiveness does not. The hot chicks who subscribe to that shit have been seriously damaged. Either incest survivors or bat shit crazy chicks. No exceptions.

I have an old high school friend that just finished up one of those mudder events (or something like that) in Arizona and she's made about 27 posts PER DAY in regards to it over the last week or so. She's posted everything from pics of the event to pictures of bruises and cuts, it's really disgusting. The biggest problem are all the replies saying "you go girl!" and the like that continue to encourage her rediculous posing.
 

This thread has inspired me to close my Facebook account. I'm not exactly sure why I opened it in the first place, but it's a relief to have it out of my life. I did manage to get an eclectic group that included the Tea Party, the NRA, the Landmark Forum, the Dalai Lama and Joan Rivers and Zegna. I don't think I actually met more than about 10% of my "friends". They too were an interesting collection ranging from tree huggers to an actual Nazi.

What's interesting about closing your account is that when you do it, two or three photos of your "friends" become enlarged on your screen with the legend "they will miss you". I found that a hoot and well worth in closing the account. Going through life without a Facebook account is kind of liberating. It's like that two or three day period. when your cell phone is broken. At first it's a little annoying, but that's followed by a period of peace and tranquility.

You're kind of inspiring me. I'm probably one unhinged Obama bitchfest away from shuttering mine.
