FLAC is OK because it will be identical to the original file. MP3 is lossy. If some new, better encoder came out in the future, you can always encode from FLAC to the new format, but you can't do it very well from MP3.

So I will be okay because I am doing both FLAC and mp3.... I could just convert from my FLAC files in the future if needed? I am hoping this is the case as I have already ripped about 80 CD's.

I usually just torrent flac for CD that I own. It takes about 10 min for most records.
