Allen Edmond shoe squeeks between sock and leather.

I finally bought my first Allen Edmonds shoes a few months ago. I bought two pair. Both are very comfortable, however they squeak when I walk in them. I'm positive that it's my foot rubbing the inside of the leather. It squeaks from my toes to my heal. This is very very irritating. I have went back to my cheaper less comfortable shoes because these are embarrassing.

My socks are gold toe, stretch, over the calf nylon socks. Could a different type of sock (maybe wool) make a difference. I tried Talcum powder sa suggested in another thread but that makes no difference. The shoes are roomy but not to big. I might be able to put an insert in, so my sock didnt rest on the leather. Any other suggestions?

Are you sure they're sized correctly? This is a common problem when men buy shoes that don't fit them well, typically when it's just slightly big.

I used to have this problem on a pair of loafers. I have pima cotton, mercerized cotton, wool, and cashmere socks. None of them made a difference.

I have worn a size 11D for over 10 years. Although that was shoes $100 and under, from local stores and not anything as nice as these. This is a new step for me, a new learning experience. They do feel more ROOMY than shoes I have owned in the past. They feel great and I wouldn't say to big, but maybe they are?? As far as fit, I have maybe a half inch of play. I asked for the size I always get. I tried them on and was in love! Maybe I should have tried on a 10.5 to see.

One of the hardest things to accomplish is finding a shoe that truly fits.

I just got my shoes back from AE recrafting... I've had them for several years and they've never squeeked.

But now, they squeek in the area of the arch/ball of the foot when i make a step. Any ideas why/how to fix?

Send them back. It's probably the shank.

Try to figure out where the squeek is coming from. Listen carefully. I once took an oil-tanned leather shoe, held it to my ear, flexed it and found out that the noise was coming from where the tongue makes contact with the leather that the shoe strings are laced. It was essentially leather rubbing on leather that caused the "Squeek".

So I took a good leather balm and cleaned up that tongue and believe it or not, it took the squeek out. If the leather from your shoe is waxed, has an oil tanning, or is  "cheap" trying taking this approach- its a texture thing.

If you love the shoes- bring it into a shoe repair. If it is the skank or something, they can usually fix it (of course at a cost to you).

thanks guys for your replies. I took the laces out and moved the shoe around to try to listen to where it's squeaking. It's definitely in the shank area. I sent AE an email - hopefully they can figure this out without having to send them back (again).

AE 360 degree welt shoes do not use a shank.

just avoid AE threads, your ignorance with respect to these products is astounding.

Allen Edmonds doesn't use shanks in their shoes and you should stop trolling threads about Allen Edmonds product.
It's gotten old a long time ago amigo. Give it a rest already.

Interesting - so was he messing with me?

Anyways - I called AE to let them know the issue. They absolutely have the best customer service I've worked with.

They want me to send them back and will replace them up to $335 (not boots, shell cordovan, golf, exotic).

Wasn't really expecting that, but I obviously won't complain.

It is often the nails in the heel that squeak when a shoe is resoled.

I had this problem with my Bayfields when I first got 'em. I contacted AE and they recommended using some leather conditioner on the tongue of the shoe. They were right, and after a few applications/wearings the squeaking went away altogether.

interesting. I've head heel issues after the recraft. The top of the heel that meets the sole has been pulling away on this same shoe. Could be the problem (ie nail issue?)

I've already sent them back once - which is probably why they don't want to waste resources on trying to fix it.
