While discussing Ebay, I have abandoned buying used suits after three bad experiences:
Don't abandon Ebay absolutely. Recently, I bought a Gianni Versace overcoat on Ebay and it is the most beautiful piece of clothing that I have ever purchased. The seller said that it has been worn maybe once and it has been resting in his closet. I cannot tell if the jacket has even been worn. I can tell that it is real, and there was also a minor bidding war. I will never pay full retail for the overcoat ($3K plus), but at 20% MSRP, I will do it again and again.

Just wondering:  where do these used clothing comes from?  There are tons of used Armani and other higher end brands on Ebay, and I assume that they are real.  I have no interest in selling clothing on Ebay, so I am asking just to fill my curiosity.
When I sell used clothing, it's either from: - my own personal collection and no longer fits, isn't my style anymore, or I'm just sick of seeing - purchased in bulk lots on ebay, with the intent to resell - purchaed at consignment shops at prices lower than ebay market value

Heavens. Rest assured that I have not abandoned Ebay; in fact, I just purchased a new suit this morning. I have only lost faith in purchasing used suits. That being said, I am sure that VersaceMan and others are selling quality items. I suppose if you know and trust the seller, then it's not such a gamble.

I guess I am very lucky that my measurements are a very standard off the rack 42R. Thus, I have had great success buying suits and sports jackets off of ebay. In the last 45 days or so I have picked up: 1 Zegna pin stripe suit; 1 Tom James plaid suit; 2 Evan Piccone (1 window pane, 1 striped); 1 R. Lauren gray suit; 1 black camel hair blazer 1 Canali black blazer 1 Zegna DB blue blazer In other words, 5 suits and 3 blazers. I have been satisfied with all but the Canali black blazer (it was advertised as blue, but, it is also nice on it own merit). Of course, I have had to have the sleeves lowered or raised on a couple of the jackets and hems changed on a couple of the trousers. However, all told, a nice little collection for well under $400. Yes, the stuff is not always pristine in its newness. For example, I had to replace a button on one pair of pants and there is a obvious wear on the inside lining of one of the jackets (but not noticeable absent a serious search). But, again the price is hard to beat. That being said, if your size is not off the rack, this is not likely to work for you.
