The Official Vanda Fine Clothing Thread - Page 10

Recently received my first Vanda tie, and I am very impressed by the quality of construction and fabric. There is bit of snobby tsk-tsk'ing on this forum when Vanda is compared with Cappelli and the like, but I can assure members that Vanda more than belongs in the same arena.

P.S. - someone (OP / Mods?) really needs to add "Vanda" to the thread title.

Agreed on all counts.

Do it. Gerald and Diana's work is internationally known as Vanda Fine Clothing now (as opposed to ties by gshen).

I have 7 MTM Vanda ties with 3-4 more on the way, and 3 of their pocket squares. To me, their ties (and squares) are the perfect, pure expression of each individual fabric. Gerald and Diana, as others have mentioned, are class acts and wonderful to work with over e-mail.

Too few pics in this thread! Some people post up pics -- I'll try to take some this weekend. A good place to start is the Vanda tag on Spoo's tumblr (hope this is OK to link to): http://lacasuarina.tumblr.com/tagged/vanda

^ Excellent choice.

In my next shipment: Blue DonegalGrey Melange-Navy Grenadine, and Navy with Blue Flowers. A good day's work.

I just hope I get that Spoo dimple on the tie when I buy a Vanda.

I must admit that I have no experience with good ties, so I would like to ask: Why is it that ties with unlined tips are desirable? I would be concerned that it gets too flimsy and light?

It's all about personal taste. There is something about handrolled edges/unlined tips that just get people going.. I personally love it.. satisfied.gif

On certain ties it works better than others, for example, self-tipped grenadines are just way too thick. They need to be untipped or regular silk tipped.

Thanks for the reply. The ties look really good, and I can see that the grenadines look a bit more substantial.

Did Spoo ever actually give an instructional on his tying technique like he has teased for years?
