Guys, what is the consensus regarding sizing on the 4497s last?  Should we size down one full size from US TTS?  US 9 = UK 8?

no. this is not correct for all cases.

there are many people who drop down a full size on the 4497s.  and and full 1.5 sizes on the 4444.  I'm a TTS US 11D for instance, and I wear a UK 10 on the 4497s and a UK 9.5 on the 4444.

for clarification, see my post here:

I emailed Tricker's about this issue and this is what they had to say:

"The 4497 last comes up true to size and we would suggest that you stick to a 6 1/2, if you normally wear a 6 1/2. If you have anything made  on the 4444 last then go for a size 6."

heterophilous  I do agree that this may not be correct  in all cases, but it appears to be the most common response to the sizing question of the 4444 last. However I can only reference the 4497 last in my personal experience and to be honest I do get tempted to order a full size down since the 4497 does feels more roomier than expected.

I think part of the problem is the confusion in converting UK sizes to US sizes. My understanding is:

UK size = US size - 1

However I've seen some manufacturers that provide the following instead:

UK size = US size - 0.5

In any case, I measure US 8D on a brannock device and take UK 7 on 4497 and UK6.5 on 4444.

tricker's is correct when they say that 4497s fits TTS.  and that's what i'm saying as well.

the issue, here, is working out the conversion from US to UK sizes, and that's where i disagree with tricker's.

they suggest that you size down only a half size from your TTS US size.  whereas i know many people who actually drop down one full size from their TTS US size.

that's why i say, it's best to have a good reference for what your actual TTS UK size is with some other british shoe brands.  if you're clear on what your TTS UK size is, then the guidance that tricker's gives on its various lasts make perfect sense.

the exceptions here are if you have a high instep, wide feet, prefer chunky socks on roomier fit, etc . . .

Agreed, I wear Tricker's and Loake and they both fit a bit snug around the toe box, once I worked them in they fit a bit loose. Go figure.*

There is my sizing hope it may be helpful to your
I have flat and relatively short feet

Tricker's 4444 last fitting 5, size 9 - very fit
Tricker's 4497s last fitting 5, size 9.5 - width is ok but a little bit long for me
Alden Barrie last indy boot 10E, slightly long and loose at heel, probably 9.5e better for me
Alden Barrie last LWB 9.5E, not fully break-in yet but seem to be fit, but not as fit as tricker's 4444 last
