street style pocket square talk

What is the consensus on pocket squares with more of a street style rather than an MC look? They're a good way to inject some color into fits... with a suit jacket, sure, but where do you draw the line. I see JKissi rocking a nice patterned square with a levi's jacket, but I'm not sure how many people can pull that off. Anybody have any good fit pics that proves one way or the other?

JKissi is really handsome and has a really good eye for styling, so he can get away with a lot of stuff.

Pocket squares in general are so saturated right now, just a way for people who read The Sartorialist to signal to other people who read The Sartorialist that they read The Sartorialist. I'm sure there are ways to pull one off with a casual jacket, but at this particular moment in time I'd say it's ill-advised. Maybe wait 8 to 10 years.

I tried to reply earlier, but it didn't "take" for whatever reason. I'll offer a counterpoint to MR and say that if you're wearing a casual blazer/sport coat with a button-down, a relatively simple (white, muted solid color, subtle pattern) cotton or linen square will look fine and will most likely add to the fit instead of making you look like an Internet dandy. You're incrementally more likely to look like an idiot if you: - have too much of the square hanging out of the pocket - have a loud color or garish pattern (e.g., paisley) - wear a pocket square with something more casual than a blazer/sport coat - have a shiny (e.g., non-raw silk) material - pair it with a t-shirt - wear cropped pants and match your pocket square to your socks - do something boneheaded like wearing a pocket square that's an exact match of your tie (in which case you probably shouldn't be allowed to dress yourself, or you're a TV sportscaster) I'm sure there are exceptions to all of these (except for the last one), and JKissi could probably pull off almost all of them simultaneously and still look good.

Wore a kelly green with white polka dot PS with my red/white gingham lined junya blazer last week to add a new level of obnoxiousness by the end of the day I really liked it lol

Yo Larry Lawrence is the S/S lowkey spot man, I love that place, been there a few times. You gotta give hotel del mano a shot, super good cocktails (bordering obscure & artisanal) at a good price and quiet atmosphere, great date spot.

Good advice. The matching pocket square and tie is a deadly combination. I'd do one of the two but both seems excessive, and matching them is ridiculous.

That said I do like squares with some color in them.

I've already gotten comments at school (I'm older/grad school) that "hey it's a good thing you're so tall, because otherwise you might look gay the way you dress" so I think it's too late to avoid dandyism. Then again, it's not hard to stick out when most male grad students wear stained tees and crappy sneakers.
