Question for you guys--there are (chalk? ink?) marks on the shoes as shown below. I'm a little concerned about trying to remove them since they're so close to the suede. Thoughts?

It is likely to be 'silver pen', a leather marker that comes off easily with shoe polish.
Use a bit of neutral polish on a Q-tip, covering the suede with a bit of masking tape (and be very careful).

^ Bengal, I'm continually impressed by your knowledge.

Curious, is that you in your avatar?

Iirc, bengal was in a picture of a London SF meetup. Still wearing the same glasses, I believe.

I used to get bengal and luckystrike confused bc of their avatars.

And bengal: I too, am grateful for the wealth of shoe knowledge you share with the forum.

Is it just the picture, or is there barely any chisel to the Rain last?

I think I'm just guilty of bad photography. Gdot has a picture of his green shell on the same last earlier in the thread. It shows the chisel much better.

Hey Guys,

Since you all appear to be the Carmina experts I thought I would post this here. I recently got a pair of Carmina punch toes on the Simpson last. The problem I am having is that although they are a good fit in the width and length and actually a little tight across the top of my foot, I find my heel still lifts a little bit when I walk. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea why this would be?

Thanks

I just received navy shell Rain wholecuts, & ONE of them looks less chiseled than the other. I prefer less chiseled, so I was pleasantly surprised when I took the 1st rounder shoe out, & then puzzled when I got out the other chiseled shoe. The colors of the shell don't look the same to me either; 1 looks lighter, almost blue-green, while the other is very dark. I'll try to post pics next week.

That's the nature of Cordovan more often than not...just embrace it... :) Cordovan looks best after half a decade or more of wear and tear.

The variation in the color doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I had assumed that the navy would start out too dark & lighten over time, & I thought I might speed it up by leaving them in a sunny spot. There's a cool pic from Nick Horween showing this sunning effect.

I'm more surprised by the apparent variation in shape, but again, I'm not really bothered by it.

No they didn't have much, but you'll find Carmina at Zwartjes shops on Utrechtsestraat 123 and Gelderlandplein 219 (zwartjes.nl)
At Sir Max they sell more of EG, G&G, C&J, Saint Crispins, Alden, Santoni, their private lable and a few Carminas + StefanoBi,

Sir Max is a must go, as well as few other shops (jojo, pauw, oger, meijers)

Thanks very much for the information! I will certainly call in then to one of the Zwartjes shops as well as Sir Max - and add the other shops to my list of places to look for during my trip.

I'm going to be in Amsterdam Labor day weekend, and I will most definitely be stopping by both these stores.

Thanks for the info!

Sir Max can install the metal taps on your soles, but needs 3 days, so if you have a time and planning to do this - go there the first day you come, not the last day as I did

Again - highly recommend he Jojo shop, private shop leading by old-style gentlemanm it's near Sir Max (Huidenstraat 23, cross-road with Keizersgracht) - very attractive prices on high-end shirts.
