With my humble experience, which is rather limited in terms of quantity compared to other members, I can say that this issue is common with every maker I've tried (G&G, C&J, EG, Carmina), except Vass. All Vass shoes I've purchased have been perfectly balanced. Moreover, they're also the only shoes that holds their balance over time. I have 3-4 years old Vass shoes that are better balanced than aforementioned maker fresh out of the box.

What last is the chukka on?

As BP said, it is on Detroit. First experience with the last, great shape for a boot.

So, I saw this pair of shoes a while back, and have never been able to find the manufacturer.

I did a google image search, with no luck.

I am wondering if its possible to get Carmina to MTO or GMTO something similar.

Any opinions?

Carmina's MTO program is not very flexible
I'm guessing no but ask Betty anyway

I ran the picture through www.tineye.com

The shoe was featured in http://lenoeudpapillon.blogspot.ca/2013_04_01_archive.html who on its hand got it from http://guerreisms.com

So you may ask there.

But I did some further investigation and found out that Barker Black have made a similar double monk: http://www.theshoesnobblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/barker-black-double-monks.jpg

It's featured on Theshoesnob: http://www.theshoesnob.com/blogs/blog/tagged/dress-shoes

The model is called "Motto" or is referred to as #M0102. Good luck!

Thanks for the input, Gents.

I am going to reach out to Guerreisms. (I got that far previously via the metadata in one of the pics I found.)

I may reach out to Meermin as well. They seem to have flexibility.

x-posting...

If you missed out on the Carmina Tobacco Suede chukka in size 8.5UK, I am planning on returning mine for reasons not related to the shoe or sell if anyone is interested.  See my signature for details.  If you are in U.S., you will save $50 on shipping.

It is a great shoe and the Tobacco suede is awesome.

Cheers

@unipair guy, are the brown 10051's marron or vegano? I checked your site but didn't see them. Thanks!

Carmina sometimes does change their mind and allow a design change if you do get rejected. I would work with an established retailer like skoaktiebaloget or gentlemens footwear to push on behalf for your design.

FWIW, I do like the design and it does exist somewhat similarly in RL Ancel or Ansel model and Paul Stuart has a suede monk strap with that buckling design

For those of you who don't also read the Gentlmen's Footwear thread, a couple of us are trying to organize a GMTO of a variation on the recent 973 dark cognac shell boot. It would be Carmina's dark brown calf (marron) with dark edge trim and a Dainite or Tomir sole (TBD, I prefer Tomir).

The boot should look like a combination of the 973 boot in shell ...

and this punched captoe shoe, also on the Rain last, and with the dark brown calf that we're proposing.

If you're interested, let @steveyoo1983 know. I believe that three people have expressed interest so far, so we're half way there. Think of fall!

Behold, my new Carmina shell (sorry for crappy indoor phone pics):

Stock from Carmina.  Madrid to New Orleans in two days via FedEx, and no customs fees charged.  Total out-of-pocket was just under $650.

And:

Special makeup from ToBox in Philadelphia.  There are some subtle differences from the stock Carmina shell wholecut - e.g., perfing near the heel:

Five rows of eyelets instead of four:

Medallion:

I suppose some might say that the perfing and medallion take away from the "perfection" of the wholecut, but I like them both.  And, I think the extra eyelets are a big plus.  All in all . . .

:slayer:

Now I just have to wear them!  It will make me a little sad to scuff up those beautiful soles, though.
