Just spoke with the people from Carmina on the phone, must be a busy day over there. Serrano store smallest one, Claudio Coello biggest store they have. I need to call a couple of weeks in advance just to make sure they have what I'm looking for.

Also, Meermin is on Coello, and the street may have other places worth a look

It's interesting you would say that. I think of Dainite soles as a dressier alternative to commando. So, I would have an easier time seeing it on a captoe bal than a blucher with a split-reverse welt. Give me commando or a topy on a PTB any day - just not Dainite.

OTOH, I think Dainite is just fine on a boot, even one with a storm welt. I can't put my finger on why.

De gustibus non est disputandum, indeed.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that dainite is dressier than commando, but I don't think of it as a dress-shoe sole. Less dressy than leather (though the distinction is minimal, IMO). This PTB is fairly sleek for the genre - I think it works well here.

Another contradiction in terms IMO! Maybe I'm just too wedded to the AE and Alden versions to think of PTBs in any other way besides blobby. To quote another cliche, different strokes for different folks. ;-)

I think storm welts mostly belong on shoes, with few exceptions. There are design elements that contribute to the overall silhouette of a shoe, such that you can have one that'd otherwise make the whole thing look blobby but sleekness kept in check by the other design elements.

Storm Welt vs Flat welt
Single Dainite vs Single Leather vs Tomir
Last (the biggest impact, I think on the silhouette)

The perfect example of this was the Jasper Dover by Unionmade. Color 8 shell, agatine eyelets, antique edge, commando...looked way too blobby. Other members who tried it on in store agreed. I think Unionmade struck out on that design. A 270 degree, commando sole Dover with flat black welt and blind eyelets might look sleek(er).

I don't know how this Carmina PTB will wear, but I'd love a top-down photo when you get a chance @Watchman1 & @Journeyman

im still tempted by the jumper that unipair has on sale. their burgundy is pretty much a ruby. so much good stuff, not enough hours in the day to work self to death to buy more shoes amongst other financial obligations and responsibilities

Sorry Namor, phone pics don't do them justice but you are right, between a burgundy and ruby. This is about a year old. Another thing I like about these is this batch of cordovan came out so clean. A little brushing and they are like glass. And people might like they are on sale.
