Quick questions... What do you all think about Carmina's Simpson last? Can a shoe be too sleek?

best last in their arsenal.........not sure why it doesn't get more love. Of course, for those who can readily wear it.

I'm starting to come around on the idea that leg opening of pants should be correlated to "sleekness" of last. Slimmer leg, sleeker last.  Thoughts?

That's generally correct. Though an additional point is also the length of your foot.
If you know you have very small feet, best to avoid very large leg openings.

it tends to look very ugly when a wearer's pinky joint sort of protrudes outward, thus ruining the 'sleekness' of the last totally.

You can still have a sleek shoe without it being narrow. See the Bestetti shoe below. It's bespoke, but you can still get a very "sleek" or "sharp" looking shoe and not have it be too narrow.

Agreed; however, I feel body proportions is also extremely important. For instance, I have a 36" waist +/-, so I don't taper below 8"... typically go in the 8.25-8.5" range (It's not that I'm aversive to the taper idea. I actually think it's a great look. But somebody tapering to 7.5" or below with a 30" waist is much more proportional).

Why do you say best last in their Arsenal ?

Isn't it interesting how "sleekness" has become so important these days. It's replaced "classic" in the gent-o-sphere.

To be fair pep, you and I have duck feet. I'm sure there are many a time we wish we could fit into a Simpson, 82, or GG normal width last!

Ain't that the truth! And actually it takes a sleek last like Vass U to make my H width dogs not look like clown clods.

It's just interesting how trends have changed so drastically in the past 4 years away from rounder last's and towards more angular designs.

BTW, I owe you a response in the Vass thread regarding heel width...

I haven't been in the shoe game long enough to know what the trends were. But once I got in, I've always been liked more "shapely" lasts.

Well, happily awaiting your reply sir wink.gif

I'm an 8UK in the Simpson last - would an 8UK in the Inca for a Chelsea boot work for me? Or am I too ambitious?

AJ
