IMO the visual aspect is secondary if it's the fit that's the concern. It's how they feel on your feet that matters. A pair of shoes can look perfectly fine and fit poorly or look bulging but fit is great. Some tips for trying out shoes in the comfort of your home:

1. Try them out in the afternoon or evening, your feet will most likely be a bit swollen from a hard days work. Some people's feet swell up a lot after a few glasses of wine though, so best stay off the booze. The ideal time for me to try out shoes is after lunch but before dinner. Just a personal reflection.
2. Wear proper socks (the type you'll most likely use with the pair).
3. Ideally, wear them for at least 15-30 minutes, the longer the better. Play some PlayStation or read a book. Then stand up in them and walk around on a carpet to avoid scuffing, and try not to crease the shoes. Most shops have a policy against accepting returns that show signs of wear of creasing.

You'll very likely feel right away if the fit is good or not. Fit should be snug but not hurt or pinch your feet. And if you are in doubt, reach out to your preferred retailer.

Anyone know what's the best way to contact Carmina? According to FedEx they apparently shipped my cordovan belt to the completely wrong address- tried to contact them via their site or info@carminashoemaker.com and no response yet :-(

If you don't mind paying a bit more it seems they can still make this model for you.

Might be easier to contact FedEx...

Edit:  They also provide a phone number on their website.

Hey guys, how does the forest last compare to Simpson?

If I'm an 8 in Simpson, does that translate to same for forest? I have a low instep, which is why Simpson works.

Man these are awesome but $1150 is quite a lot. What was the original price out of curiosity?
